I could have just sedated them and done the procedure in 5 minutes, but to give them a little faith in the system and pride in conquering their fears was my biggest win of a rough week.

I spent an hour in the ICU explaining a minor procedure to a patient. The tears made it clear they need to have an element of control in their care. I sprayed some lidocaine in my own throat to prove it was safe, an promptly gagged & wretched. They “snot laughed” and consented.

A prior infection has a 95% reduction in severe disease. 2 doses of vaccine (or a dose of jnj) have minimal efficacy against preventing infection medrxiv.org/content/10.110… It’s 2022 - why are we saying this is still a risk?

My Tia Irma and Joe garcia were high school sweethearts and leave behind 4 beautiful children, their ages being 23, 19, 15 and the youngest only being 13 years old, no child should have to go through this, my heart breaks for them
