@Nariko_Ott Silent Gen is over 80. You might be thinking of Boomers who, well, boom.

@Logological Thanks for the shout out! (BTW the twitter account I use more often is @taoish. )
If you like palindromes, check out the new documentary "The @palindromists" starring "Weird" @alyankovic, @danicamckellar, Will Shortz and, you know, #palindromes.

The Dmitri Borgmann #SatorSquare mystery has been solved, by none other than palindromist extraordinaire @msalt! His response to my article has just appeared in Notes & Queries: doi.org/10.1093/notesj… #palindrome

A bit late to feed off the publicity for #Tenet, but Oxford's Notes & Queries has just published my paper on a series of mysterious #SatorSquare articles: doi.org/10.1093/notesj… Open-access preprint: zenodo.org/record/4268041 #palindrome

@monicaMedHist @PennPress We know the square flourished from the 6th-12th c. in Coptic and Ehtiopian, mostly in magico-Christian healing amulets (beg. with SATOR/CATOP). But it's absent in the PGM. When it returns to West in 9th C., the ROTAS form mixes w/ SATOR so there must be an alternate source.

@monicaMedHist @PennPress Thank you! I'm speaking at IMC-Leeds this year. Also just did this (warning: long) with Prof. Michael Fontaine (Classics, Cornell). youtube.com/watch?v=azq-hi…

A reminder that I'll be doing a month of one-a-day tweets on medieval texts on ♀'s medicine, starting tomorrow, for #WomensHistoryMonth. Stay tuned!

#MedievalTwitter To celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth this year, I plan to do a tweet a day about medieval texts on ♀'s medicine. If there are any particular topics you'd like to hear about, let me know. Expect to hear about #Trotula, vernacularizations, the Muscian fetal images etc

@monicaMedHist @PennPress Fascinating! Thanks for the pointer. I'm researching the history of the square, which disappears from Western European codices for several centuries then reappears (reversed). But codices were predominantly male... 🤔
English

@msalt @PennPress 🙏For the approaches I take to ♀'s medical history, I want both. A gender analysis (subject of another thread I have going: twitter.com/monicaMedHist/…) looks at how ideas/practices/things move btw ♂ & ♀. If a male-associated charm becomes female-associated, that's significant.
Monica H Green, PhD #VaxTheWorld@monicaMedHist
Read two more reviews of same book. Neither reviewer mentions "women/gender". One does mention midwives as "illegal practitioners." So, here's our measure of how far gender analysis has reached in #histmed. (Not!) Despite the work of @MCabrePairet @sararitchey1 @SharonStrocchia.

@monicaMedHist @PennPress That sachet is the example you want, I suspect. IIRC the Manchester square was on an amphora associated with soldiers; more about drinking and military might than healing.
English

@msalt Hmm. Hadn't thought about that, since I already talked about it in my edition of the #Trotula (currently celebrating its 20th anniversary for all those needing to pick up a new copy!!). I thought I'd tweeted about that before, but can only find this: twitter.com/WinstonEBlack/….

@McrMuseum Sorry but the Paternoster theory has been discredited. The Pompei squares are too old; the Our Father prayer and Alpha-Omega symbolism were decades if not a century later.
Besides, anagrams prove nothing; there are hundreds, including satanic, English and Norwegian anagrams too.

@rhicrtr @SpankyAKAPepe @ContraPoints Latin has a different, much more common meaning (the language) and when used for people is associated with the really corny 1950s ethnic stereotype of the "Latin Lover."

2/3s of Republicans in Congress signed onto a lawsuit attempting to disenfranchise millions of voters, and somehow @Kaepernick7 was the one disrespecting our American values?

@msalt We used a Turkey stock we made on Thanksgiving! Turned out great.
