Every time I thought I had a solution, another setback appeared. I kept telling myself I would figure it out. I didn’t. As the debt grew, so did the pressure. Phone calls. Messages. Promises I couldn’t keep. People who wanted answers I didn’t have. Eventually, a meeting was arranged between me and some of the people I owed. I arrived hoping we could reach an understanding. Instead, everything spiraled. At one point, a Navy officer involved in the matter lost his temper and slapped me. Right there. In front of everyone.

Like many young people, I wanted financial freedom. I wasn’t trying to get rich. I just wanted a better life. I started a travel consultancy business. Filled with big dreams and for a while, things looked okay. Then one problem became another. One debt became several. Every month felt like I was trying to put out a fire with a cup of water

A year ago, I was arrested over a debt. Three days later, I was charged to court. That same evening, I was on my way to prison.
