@politicalfranco @moving_charlie I'm obviously biased, but our job is to search(easy) be a therapist, hold hand, answer questions, fix problems which crop up even on easy cases, get the difficult cases through, fight your corner with underwriters and agents... Would you rather call a person or a call centre?

@moving_charlie I've never really understood the point of mortgage brokers. Surely mortgages are clear and simple enough that you can just use comparison sites?

@moneychimp I suppose this is a problem in all walks of life still. If I meet people I always try to speak to both. If done remotely I tend to deal with whoever the lead person is, although I find that is mostly women.

Hugh here wants evidence of problematic attitudes towards women in financial services. Who wants to go first?

@gavlarr80 @moving_charlie No, only one is downsizing and that's due to divorce. The rest are mostly first time buyers. Then an even split between remortgages or moving up the ladder.

The house price boom mongers are at it again. Neither transactions nor prices are booming. Only the number of houses coming to market is high, which is not a boom signal. Sigh. So much gaslighting.

@moving_charlie Im not disputing the figures, but both my homes, mortgage repayments were 50-65% lower than renting the same place. Not taking into account the fact I made £50k on 1 home in 4 years and £100k+ on my current home in 7-8 years. Those figures are WAY out from my personal experience.

Having the choice of owning or renting is a good thing. Everyone’s circumstances are different. It’s pointless to suggest either one is right or wrong. But the “renting is always wasted money” trope is gaslighting nonsense.

@moving_charlie This must be an exception. Flat in London maybe? I bought my home in 2017, its gone up by about 30% in that time.

When you compare the 200% price growth in the first 13 years for this property (even with a price crash half way), you’d be forgiven for dismissing the doom mongers who might have told you you’d make ZERO growth in the second 13 years. But here we are. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@moving_charlie Just to counter this a little... Some lenders DIPs show the maximum they would lend you (even if you request less). I always see this as being like poker but with your cards showing when trying to negotiate a price.

It looks a bit frosty out there this morning. It looks like winter is not quite over. If you want a fancy (we think) ice scraper, please get in touch. Alternatively there are a few left @snapes_ estate agents in Bramhall.

@moving_charlie Is this sales agreed or completed? It could be a knock on from the mini budget? Things were slow due to the uncertainty at the time. We're way up on this time last year, every broker I speak to is busy.

Successful sales total this year so far is lower than last year, which is disappointing as we need higher transaction volumes for everyone.

@moving_charlie Until next year when the rent goes up and the year after... My mortgage has been the same since 2022. Its also 3x the cost to rent than my mortgage payment (used to be 2x when I bought the house). Oh and the house has gone up by £100k. Thats in 8 years.

In many ways (if you have a good landlord) the fixed cost of renting is much less stressful than "owning" a home (that your lender actually owns) where you are exposed to any maintenance and mortgage cost shocks. Rent is rent, no more to pay.

@moving_charlie I get your point. But aspirations differ for people usually based on where they started or what life has thrown at them. It might not be for you, but there will be people over the moon living there. Some of the comments here are quite harsh.

Not what I’d call aspirational. I don’t know whether it’s planning constraints, profit requirements or both, but if I was considering 35 years of debt repayments, I’d be hoping for something a little less military barracks style.
