The French are not lazy. They just enjoy leisure more than most (no irony here) And this is perfectly fine: . As productivity increases, it is perfectly reasonable to take it partly as more leisure (fewer hours per week, earlier retirement age), and only partly in income.

"The US is strong, Europe is weak" You hear it everywhere: in the US national defense strategy, in speeches by Trump, Bessent, Lutnick, etc., in Davos this week. You hear it everywhere but it's a myth. The US has not grown faster than Europe since 2010, not by one iota. 🧵

🚨BREAKING: ICE/Border Patrol agents were filmed assaulting U.S. citizens outside a HIGH SCHOOL in Minneapolis, pepper-spraying students as agents swarmed the school entrance. Let that sink in. School administrators and staff desperately tried to get agents off school property, while ushering students away from armed federal agents. Chaos. Panic. Children running for safety. And yes… agents pepper-sprayed STUDENTS. This didn’t happen by accident. This happened because the Trump administration stripped schools of their “sensitive location” protections, opening the door for ICE and Border Patrol to operate on school grounds. In plain terms: The federal government intentionally removed protections that once kept armed agents away from children, and now we are watching the predictable result… kids being assaulted with chemical weapons at school. Outside a high school. In broad daylight. On U.S. soil. This is not “border security.” This is state violence. And it’s being unleashed on children.

A few months ago, I said that a higher minimum wage can lead to creative destruction. Today, a new QJE paper shows exactly that: a higher MW yields "fewer but more productive firms". High wages often improve economic efficiency! It's a crucial part of the Nordic model.

Creative destruction is also the most under-appreciated reason for why high minimum wages can improve economic efficiency

🚨 Our paper forthcoming in @EJ_RES. Using a field experiment in Lahore, we show: 1. Residents in developing cities demand air quality forecasts; 2. Training helps residents forecast pollution more accurately; 3. When residents receive forecasts, they adapt behavior. 🧵 👇🏽

Being in nature reduces fatigue and boosts attention. 34 experiments: After walking, playing, and learning in parks, forests, or water, kids & teens show better focus and self-control. Not all outdoor time is equal. Green and blue spaces are more refreshing than urban settings.
