The new online trade tax explained below 👇 The GRA is expected to introduce VAT POS devices that will allow VAT to be captured electronically at the point of sale or payment. In simple terms, when a vatable transaction happens, the device or payment system will help record the sale and VAT element in real time. It applies to both local and foreign purchases. Let's say you buy your favourite gob3 via Hubtel or let's say BoltFood, if the price is 20 cedis, you will now pay 24 cedis, the 4 cedis extra is the VAT payable to the Government This is part of government effort to widen the tax net as we are only able to collect 40% of all VAT due. This measure will increase the VAT collection rate. Meaning more money to government. As to whether Ghanaians will be the ultimate beneficiaries, history doesn't give me the confidence to say so.
