@RetroCoderX That's exactly it. And the interesting part is it wouldn't even need to be perfect to be useful. Even 70% accuracy on predicting policy consequences before implementation is better than what most governments are working with right now.

@MuhammadShiha Connect the two and you basically got a policy simulation engine for an entire country. Not a twin, a crystal ball.

Three days ago I wrote about Abu Dhabi building a digital twin of its entire population. Then Dubai launched one for the whole city. Abu Dhabi's twin models people. Dubai's twin models the city. These aren't pilot projects, they're live infrastructure running government decisions in real time. The question nobody's asking yet: what happens when you connect the two? At that point you're not modelling a road or a hospital. You're modelling what happens to people when you change them. That's probably 3 years away. Maybe less knowing this place. #UAE #DigitalPolicy #GovernmentAffairs

Abu Dhabi has built a virtual copy of its entire population. Not a database. Not a dashboard. A digital twin that models how 4 million residents age, get sick, and respond to policy before it happens. The system integrates 3.5 billion clinical records, 850,000 genomic samples, wearable data, and environmental signals into one platform. It then runs predictions on policy outcomes before they're implemented. The results are real. Emergency response time cut to under 12 minutes vs a global average of 30. Heart attack response improved by more than 35%. But none of this works without one thing: data sovereignty. Medical data stored, processed, and controlled within UAE borders. The policy decision came before the technology. The infrastructure always follows the regulatory framework. Most countries debate digital health strategy. Abu Dhabi is running it at population scale. #UAE #DigitalPolicy #GovernmentAffairs

Most people think the UAE builds because it's growing. That's not quite right. The UAE builds because investors are buying. Construction here is a consequence of the real estate market, not the other way around. When investor sentiment is strong, developers launch projects, cash flows in, and construction accelerates. When sentiment shifts, projects slow, regardless of actual housing need. In most countries, you build because people need homes. In the UAE, you build because investors want assets. That distinction matters more than it sounds. It means the construction sector is directly tied to investment policy, visa frameworks, tax treatment, and the country's ability to attract international capital. The regulatory environment isn't just a backdrop to the market. It's what creates the market. I've spent 15 years watching this from the inside. The moments UAE construction accelerated most weren't driven by population growth. They were driven by policy decisions: opening freehold ownership to foreigners, the Golden Visa, the post-COVID openness strategy. Policy built this skyline more than cement did.

The UAE declared 2026 the Year of Family. As someone who moved here years ago with a suitcase and a business idea, and somehow ended up with a family, a career, and a favourite shawarma spot, I find that declaration very on brand for this country. Dubai has a way of doing that. You come for six months. You stay for fifteen years. Somewhere between the visa renewals and the school runs, you realize this place didn't just host your career. It built your life. Dubai doesn't just host people, it keeps them. Most cities get expats for a few years. Dubai gets them for life. Not because of the tax-free salaries or the skyline, but because somewhere along the way it stops feeling temporary. You stop saying "when I go back home" and start saying "this is home." I've built my career here, raised my family here, and made friendships here that have nothing to do with business cards or networking events. That's rare for a city that moves as fast as this one. So when the UAE declares a Year of Family, it doesn't feel like a government campaign. It feels like an acknowledgment of something a lot of us already figured out along the way.

The recent Gulf tensions hit tourism harder than most operators expected. Some restaurants saw revenue drop 50–70% in March and April alone. Footfall collapsed, but costs didn't — rent, staff, supply chains all kept climbing. That gap is where businesses die. Last week we brought together 40+ restaurant owners and executives under the RBC Restaurant Industry Committee, the first session of its kind, alongside representatives from Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism, diplomatic missions, the Consul General, and the Trade Representation of Russia in the UAE. The conversation was honest. No spin. One thing kept coming up: the businesses that survive crises aren't necessarily the strongest, they're the ones that engaged government early. Before the cash ran out. Before the license issue became a closure notice. Before the problem became unsolvable. Government relations in a crisis isn't lobbying. It's showing up to the right table before you desperately need something from it.

Something big is about to happen in UAE-Russia trade, and almost nobody is talking about it. The EAEU-UAE free trade agreement is finalizing ratification this year. Trade turnover already hit an all-time high of $14 billion last year, up 50% in 12 months. When this agreement enters into force, it means over 97% of Russian goods entering the UAE will be duty-free. That's not a headline. That's a structural shift. What I know from my experience is this: when a free trade agreement lands, the companies that win aren't the ones who reacted fastest. They're the ones who did the regulatory groundwork before ratification. Right now, most companies are waiting for the announcement. The smart ones are already asking: which sectors open first? Where are the compliance gaps? Who are the new gatekeepers? The agreement gets the headline. The regulatory groundwork is what actually moves companies through the door. tass.com/economy/2136991

Bilateral trade between the UAE and Russia is on track to hit $12-14 billion in 2026, with both countries targeting $20 billion by 2030. I've spent over a decade in the room for parts of this story — the early MOUs, the banking workarounds, the moment a company finally found a real distribution partner instead of a fourth intermediary. The number is impressive. What's more impressive is what's behind it: trade is diversifying beyond hydrocarbons into tech, finance, logistics, and agritech. Bilateral trade doesn't grow because two governments like each other. It grows because someone did the unglamorous work of aligning regulation first.

Sheikh Mohammed consolidated three different government bodies into one Federal Authority for AI and Data. Omar Sultan Al Olama is heading it, and it reports straight to Cabinet. Most people will read this as a tech story. It isn't. It's a governance story. When I ran a cross-border tech fund connecting Russian and Middle Eastern companies, the single biggest blocker was never the technology. It was nobody owning the regulatory question. Three agencies, three answers, zero accountability. This move fixes that at the federal level. One authority, one mandate, one place to go. If you work in digital policy or government affairs in this region — this is the one to watch closely over the next 12 months. gulfbusiness.com/en/2026/uae/ua…
