Today Ukraine said its final farewell to Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach — the legendary commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade and one of the most experienced combat pilots.
He was killed on March 9 on the eastern front while carrying out a combat mission, in conditions of the enemy’s total air superiority and powerful air defenses.
Oleksandr always flew first and took on the most dangerous missions: the defense of Kyiv, the liberation of Kharkiv and Kherson regions, and the battles for Snake Island.
Since 2022, he completed more than 150 combat sorties.
He was a full holder of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and was awarded the Hero of Ukraine Gold Star in 2025.
The farewell ceremony took place today in Zhytomyr — the city where the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade is based — at St. Michael’s Cathedral, where family, fellow soldiers, and hundreds of Ukrainians gathered.
Eternal memory and glory.
“He wasn’t just a commander. He was a leader who always led from the front.”
Ukraine remembers all its heroes.

A 13-year-old girl.
Her mother.
Nine neighbors.
A Russian missile into a residential building in Kharkiv.
This is not “liberation.”
This is state terror.
Russia targets homes because it cannot break Ukraine on the battlefield.

Kharkiv 💔 Yesterday night, russians killed 13‑year‑old Lisa Polyanska and her mother by striking a five‑story residential building with a missile. This terrorist attack by Russia also killed nine of their neighbors🕯 Bastards. Terrorists.

Russia provides assistance to the Iranian regime. We know what has been provided so far, although the exact volumes of such a help not full known. The good thing is that the Iranian regime does not seem to be able to provide Russia with missiles and some other weapons which they use in attacks against Ukraine.
However, the focus had shifted to the Middle East. I hope the war will not be long, not only because I’m worried about Ukraine but also because every human life lost or destroyed is a tragedy. Meanwhile, we don't see progress in peace negotiations. If a lasting peace or a ceasefire are not negotiated during the first days of the conflict, there is a big risk of its prolongation. This will definitely have influence on the situation in Ukraine. Less focus means less support. Less support means less air defence.

Always remember the tragedy of Mariupol. Russian terrorists attacked the city and murdered more than 100,000 civilians, predominantly Russian-speaking.
In this drama theater, orcs murdered 600 children who were hiding there from bombs.
Note the word "kids" in front.
Never forget. Never forgive.

@rshereme 💔 what an amazing human being. Selflessly sacrificing everything, including his life, for a principle, for decency, for the defence of Ukraine.

“I had a $700,000 salary in Seattle. But I still went to fight in Ukraine.”
Andrew Webber — a U.S. Army captain and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan — left his career as a corporate lawyer and joined Ukraine’s International Legion in 2023. He was killed in combat on July 27, 2023, Hromadske reports.
Webber graduated from West Point in 2005. The U.S. Army deployed him to Iraq in 2006, and later to Afghanistan in 2008 and 2012.
During his second mission, he commanded the 1191st cavalry reconnaissance and sniper unit. His call sign was Palwar — “fighter” in the Dari language.
In Afghanistan he received the Bronze Star for bravery. His mother, Carla Webber, says the family only learned about the award when an official document arrived by mail. Later, Andrew left the service with the rank of captain.
After the army, he built a career in Seattle. Webber earned a law degree, worked as a corporate lawyer at a major international firm, and earned about $700,000 a year.
Even before the full-scale invasion, he worked with NATO structures that trained Ukrainian soldiers. In the spring of 2023, he took a 10-week leave from his law firm and traveled to Ukraine.
In Ukraine, Webber joined the International Legion. In messages home, he wrote that the army lacked equipment, instructors, and people with combat experience.
He rarely told his family about the fighting. Instead, he sent photos of Ukrainian fields, farms, and stray cats, and told his parents that in Ukraine he had eaten “the best hot dog of my life.”
His mother, Carla Webber, knows almost nothing about his final battle. Only that her son was commanding the operation, and that it ended unsuccessfully.
Later, his comrades wrote to the family that Andrew changed the unit’s tactics and saved many lives. Webber spoke Arabic, Farsi, Dari, some Spanish, and had also begun learning Ukrainian.
Two days before July 27, the family last spoke with him while playing Wordle together — their daily online game.
More than 600 people attended his funeral in the United States — diplomats, veterans, and members of the Ukrainian diaspora. His family was presented with a Ukrainian flag in his honor.
His mother, Carla Webber:
“Andrew believed it was his duty to go to Ukraine and help. That’s what soldiers do — protect people and do the right thing.”

Kharkiv 💔
Today, 9‑year‑old Gordiy was killed together with his mother Olena when a Russian missile struck a residential building.
The tragedy was reported on the page of the Ukrainian Ice Hockey Federation:
“Gordiy was a sincere, kind, and open boy who loved hockey, his team, and training. We will always remember his smile, his dedication on the ice, and the joy he brought to every practice.
Olena was a compassionate, bright person — a loving mother and teacher who gave her students not only knowledge, but also warmth and care.
Today we lost not only a young hockey player and his mother. We lost a part of our great hockey family.”🕯

I utterly condemn Russia’s latest reprehensible attacks in Ukraine, in which two children and five adults were killed in Kharkiv. Yet again, Russia shows it is not interested in peace. We must further increase pressure on Putin and give Ukraine the support it needs @dfatirl
