Public Health Officers are the backbone of preventive healthcare and a critical pillar for Universal Health Coverage, reducing the curative burden by enforcing standards. Today, we hosted the Kenya Environmental and Public Health Practitioners Union (KEHPHPU) leadership, led by Secretary General Mr. Brown Ashira, to discuss legislative reviews and the gazettement of functions to legally empower practitioners in enforcing nationwide sanitation. We also addressed staffing gaps and the need for increased budgetary support for technicians and specialists. Further we deliberated on harmonising Community Health Associations and formalising licensing to enhance professionalism and accountability. The Ministry remains committed to empowering public health practitioners to build a resilient health systems.

Joined fellow Principal Secretaries for our monthly meeting chaired by the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr Felix Koskei. The meeting gave us an opportunity to review ongoing government projects and strengthen departmental synergies as we continue working together to deliver effective and efficient services. These engagements are important in ensuring that our efforts remain aligned and responsive as we advance the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) for the benefit of all citizens.

The Government is expanding specialised healthcare training to improve access to advanced clinical services for Kenyans and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Today, we joined the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, who was the Chief Guest at the 4th Graduation Ceremony of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) Training Institute of Specialised Nursing (TISN), where 77 professionals graduated with Higher Diploma qualifications. Of the graduating cohort, 29 attained Higher Diplomas in Critical Care Nursing, 18 in Oncology Nursing, 12 in Perioperative Nursing and 18 in Nephrology Nursing. These graduates will contribute to strengthening specialised care capacity across public and private health facilities and support better clinical outcomes for patients with complex and high risk conditions, advancing Kenya’s progress towards UHC.
