YOU LIVE AMONGST SAVAGES!
A young man narrowly escaped death on the N2 between Plettenberg Bay and Knysna on the night of 19 April 2026, near the Garden of Eden, in what could have been a fatal incident caused by the lack of responsibility and failure of local law enforcement to fine owners of free-roaming cattle. The accident occurred just before 7:45 p.m., while he was on his way to Knysna Hospital to visit his wife.
His mother reached out for help on a local WhatsApp group and services was immediately sent out to assist. The family is deeply shaken but thankful he wasn’t more seriously injured.
Within minutes of the crash, a disturbing scene played out as people appeared from all directions, cutting up the cow that had been hit, surrounding the car with the man still inside, demanding money, and even trying to take his belongings. A group of women stood guard around the vehicle, keeping him safe until emergency services arrived. The family expressed their gratitude for the fast response and assistance to all concerned.
For years, the Plettenberg Bay community has called for a pound and hefty penalties for owners of free-roaming cattle and goats, but their pleas continue to go unheard. Will it take the death of another human being or a family before anything is being done?
