@CinemaTweets1 Great show!!! They rushed the final season. Needed at least 1 more season tomato it a more complete send off. But it’s still a great show, nonetheless.

I knew a dude in college who never shut up about Boardwalk Empire. Wouldn’t call him a friend necessarily- more like a frenemy? He was just always around. Anyway, his only positive contribution to my life was constantly talking about this show. I’m glad I watched this- it’s great

@CinemaTweets1 There might have been more room for character development for sure. But the plot would’ve taken a big hit without the competent administration of Logan Roy. The kids were too incompetent to pull off the high stakes maneuvers too keep us glued.

The Wire ended 18 yrs ago today. It’s been taught in Ivy League schools, law schools & film schools. David Simon was interviewed by a sitting president about its lasting impact. Cited in a State Supreme Court ruling. Often hailed by critics as the best ever. Never won an Emmy.

@LadePlatinum Well said. Such a chilling intro. The utter indifference he showed to the potential taking of human life was far more menacing than any act of simple violence.

When villains are introduced it's usually by a display of violence (gyp rosetti on boardwalk empire, richie aprile on sopranos) The Wire introduces Marlo through an impersonal capitalist type act of indifference that on the surface looks like de-escalation but is something else

A new war is brewing in East Africa. Ethiopia seeks to regain its access to the sea which it lost to Eritrea after a brutal civil war. Eritrea has 1,400 miles of sea coastline. Currently, Ethiopia has to pay a lot importing goods via transit nations. wsj.com/world/africa/t…

Russia benefitting mightily from the Iran war. Shutdown of oil, gas , and LNG facilities across the region leaves Russia the primary short term beneficiary of higher prices. Asian and EU buyers competing over scarce supplies. wsj.com/finance/commod…

@CinemaTweets1 This was such a powerful scene. The layers. The reason for his punishment. (Theft of boots to protect his bleeding rotting feet while marching in the winter). To his strength at taking the punishment without a sound. And his wounded pride at being whipped. My Grandma cried

George Washington Carver pioneered agriculture with concepts of crop rotations. He taught farmers to plant nitrogen-fixing crops such as peanuts and soybeans. However, he was making history years before when he became the first Black student at Iowa State University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. After, he became the first Black faculty member. His contributions to agriculture planted him on the #Forbes250 list honoring historic innovators: forbes.com/sites/alexknap… Photo: Heritage Images via Getty Images

The Wire deserves to be the first recipient of the Emmys Legacy Award. This show does not get the credit and respect it deserves for the deep dive into systemic dysfunction in American institutions & the impact on the least protected in society
