Have you experienced Mississippi’s longest mural, "A Journey Through Jackson," on the Museum Trail? Painted by artist Gavin Bird, this mural was made possible thanks in part to Red Dot Storage, which generously donated the backs of their buildings for the project. #themuseumtrail

They get their name from the reddish hue of the bald head resembling that of a turkey. The lack of feathers on their head is thought to be an adaptation because they cannot clean soiled head feathers that result from sticking their head in a decomposing carcass.

One goal of the Museum Trail is to encourage new developments that improve residents' health and quality of life. The Keith Haring Fitness Court, located at Belhaven Heights Park next to the Museum Trail, will promote wellness, physical activity, and community engagement.

Sharing these values with other organizations in our community in the form of this 5k event was a privilege and a benchmark for Jackson's collective endeavors in building a stronger, more active community. #themuseumtrail

The 601 Day 5K race was one for the books. We were thrilled to host this incredible event organized by JXN Run Club and Visit Jackson. Our mission as a multi-use trail in Jackson is to evoke a stronger sense of community with individuals from all walks, runs, and rides of life.

The Museum Trail continues to benefit from the helping hands of citizen volunteers. Thanks to Dallas Quinn and Jack Pickering for spending a hot Saturday cleaning up the waterworks underpass. It’s no small task to keep our trail beautiful, especially during June in Mississippi.

No one is quite sure why these cicadas have a 13-year cycle. The most obvious reason is predator avoidance. When the cicadas emerge, they do so all at once so that the opportunist predators have time to eat only a few.

#wildlifejxn Spotlight: 13-year cicada Recently emerged in MS, these cicadas have been living in the ground since 2011 feeding on the roots of plants. After the females lay eggs, nymphs will hatch and bury in the ground, reemerging in 2037! Photo by: Wesley Shoop
