BREAKING: Last night, bandits raided Mai Gamji community in Funtua LGA of Katsina State, abducting several residents, including this woman and her daughter. The incident has sparked renewed anger among residents, many expressing frustration over the persistent wave of kidnappings and the devastating impact on affected families. How many more families must endure this pain before lasting security becomes a reality?

I am deeply saddened and horrified by the brutal lynching of Teacher Ummulkhairi on Sunday, 21st June 2026, in Kaduna. An innocent woman whose only “offence” was asking for directions to attend a lecture, was subjected to an act of unimaginable cruelty. This barbaric act is a stain on our collective conscience. No suspicion or allegation without evidence can ever justify mob violence. The sanctity of human life is fundamental to both our faith and our laws, yet she was denied due process and killed in the most inhumane manner. Equally disturbing is the reported presence of security personnel at the scene, yet without effective intervention. Every Nigerian deserves the full protection of the law, and jungle justice must never be normalised under any circumstances. Beyond this incident, I strongly condemn the rising pattern of mob violence across the country, often fuelled by rumours, misinformation, and instant judgment. No society can thrive where citizens take the law into their own hands. I call on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and ensure that all those responsible, direct perpetrators, instigators, and any negligent actors are brought to justice. Stronger preventive measures must also be urgently put in place to prevent a recurrence. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. DSS Closes Case Against El-Rufai as Trial Continues on September 22, 2026 – Bail Adjustment Rejected Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja today rejected the defence’s application for adjustment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail conditions in the alleged wiretapping trial. The defence sought variation of the stringent bail terms, which require sureties to be Level 17 civil servants with properties in Maitama or Asokoro, plus attestation letters from the Kaduna State Traditional Council. The court ruled that qualified sureties are available and declined the adjustment. Case Adjourned for Continuation In the same proceedings, the Department of State Services (DSS) formally closed its case, with prosecuting counsel Oluwole Aladedoye confirming no further witnesses would be called. Defence counsel Paul Erokoro announced plans to file a “no-case submission,” arguing that the prosecution failed to establish sufficient evidence against El-Rufai. The court granted both sides two weeks to file their processes and adjourned the matter to September 22, 2026, for the hearing of the no-case submission and continuation of the trial.
