I learnt about Canada through the eyes of a Canadian and I am forever grateful. I see many Nigerians make the same mistake a Bola, Kazeem and Chidinma made because their whole immigration journey is hinged on so and so lives in Calgary so I need to move to Calgary as well. I had

Someone suggested “gun range” she say “no”. The person who suggested it said “it was fun o!”. From that reply, I could tell that she wasn’t open to it before until she tried it. Na part of assimilation wey @Mutineer8961 dey talk be this. Everything mustn’t be restaurant 🤦🏽‍♂️

@0gaten10 @MisterOrimoloye People want to live like they are in Nigeria in a foreign land and wonder why they feel lonely. Count me in on that camping trip, on that hike to the woods etc. I don't want to live life doing more of the same

@bzkwes My #1 suggestion is volunteering. Not only do you meet extremely selfless people, you meet them of all ages, gender and races. #2 worship at non-Nigerian churches and mosques. #3 join your community Facebook group and attend events. All the above works only if you are open minded

@moofasser You need to be intentional about it. I am someone never comfortable with the familiar maybe that helps. Something as simple as deciding not to worship at a Nigerian church for example goes a long way. Look at your community events on Facebook and attend. Volunteer!!!

@Mutineer8961 it might be cultural unless you re super intentional. The culture mismatch even affects how you approach people and ways to get acquainted. The barrier goes beyond parties and career events. Assimilation aint easy

@0gaten10 I made that mistake with the UK and vowed never to repeat it. And to be honest, I see no upside limiting myself to a community expert in 'I better pass my neighbor' mentality. Even now that I live in Winnipeg, a city with a thriving Nigerian community my Nigerian circle is small

@Mutineer8961 I shortchanged myself by seeking out and trying to limit myself to the Nigerian community when I moved here. Canada has a lot to offer other than hanging out and summer parties, the two regular things Nigerians do then hibernate all winter long.

@OnyeAjuju @asemota travel back to Nigeria. What a waste. Embrace your new home as best as you can. Soak in all the good parts; the food, the culture, the community. Be curious, be open minded and you'll never be lonely a single minute of your life.

@OnyeAjuju @asemota 💯💯it is all mindset. The moment you keep looking back rather than embrace the future you've chosen, then loneliness is the result. I know folks with American/British/Canadian passports that still act like a Nigerian passport is their only option. Refuse to see the world and

@MisterOrimoloye Absolutely, but I thought it had some logic behind it. With Idris and Damson, they are famous and wealthy. I can understand the allure. This fellow has a string of sexual assault and murdered two women. He had sex with the corpse of one of the women. How do you go, yes thats the

I just watched Worst Ex Ever. I can't believe 100s of women dated and sent this fellow money after sexually assaulting and murdering two women. Committed necrophilia on one of the victims. Make it make sense.
