One day, I was coaching new beginners in layer chicken farming…
One of them asked me a simple but powerful question:
“What really increases egg production?”
I smiled and told him:
Light and feed can do magic.
Now you might be wondering… how?
Let’s break it down.
1. Light (Day Length Matters More Than You Think)
Layers need about 14–16 hours of light per day to maintain high egg production.
Light stimulates hormones that control laying.
When there is not enough light:
• Egg production drops
• Birds become less active
That’s why many farmers use artificial lighting, especially during shorter days, to maintain consistent production.
2. Feed (No Nutrition = No Eggs)
Egg production depends heavily on what the bird eats.
A good layer feed must contain:
• Enough protein for egg formation
• Calcium for strong shells
• Energy for daily activity
Poor feeding leads to:
• Fewer eggs
• Weak shells
• Stressed birds
The Real Lesson
Egg production is not magic — it is management.
Give your birds:
• Enough light
• Proper nutrition
• Clean water
• Good housing
And they will reward you consistently.
Final Thought
In poultry farming, small adjustments create big results.
What looks simple — like light and feed — is actually the difference between profit and loss.
