@dm_tbork That's one way to look at it. I disagree but there's no wrong way to run/play. But going back to your original question, fudge those rolls my friend. It's the whole point of the DM screen.

@MyNameIsMattToo I do to some degree. Chance will always be a factor in the game since we're rolling dice. To me, they represent chaos, and last night was just that. But narrative flowers may yet bloom out of those events...

Part of me wonders: should I fudge dice rolls more often? I hate it when a player character falls from unfortunate dice rolls! BLARGH!!

@dm_tbork Sure man, chance is a fine scapegoat. I don't really play for chance or dice. I play for storytelling with a group of friends. Some games worship at the alter of the dice gods. Never much been my thing. Sure they're fun to roll. I feel like they're more a tool for the narrative.

@MyNameIsMattToo Yeah... both scenarios were the result of unfortunate dice rolls. In these instances, character deaths may just be a reminder to everyone at the table that chance can be a bitch. Suffice it to say though, my fudging has always been in favor of the party, even last night's!

How would you feel about this: When a player is downed and has to make a death save, the DM asks them a question about their past as a "flashback" and if they answer it, they gain advantage on the roll. Or how could this be adjusted? #dnd
