Lekki's flooding problem isn't just about heavy rain. It's also about what happens when natural floodplains and wetlands are replaced with hard surfaces that can't absorb water.
Wetlands act like nature's sponge, storing excess rainwater and reducing pressure on drains. As development continues, protecting and restoring suitable low-lying areas, alongside improving drainage, could play an important role in making Lekki more flood-resilient.
