i finally got around to listening to navy blue’s new album and this track ‘24 Gospel’ is one that i’ve been sitting with. the first verse starts off so cold and brutally relatable to me that it took me a couple listens to fully process the track. navy blue is someone who has this very special ability to take feelings many of us can relate to and put it into words beautifully like he does here and it adds a layer to his music that you can’t ignore. truly one of my favorite writers of this last decade. earl sweatshirt’s verse is incredible as always when they work together. such a beautiful track man, I haven’t heard many like this all year. and then to end it off, sampling robin williams’ monologue from ‘dead poets society’ where he says “we don't read and write poetry because it's cute, we read and write poetry because we are members of the human race, and the human race is filled with passion…” is the perfect cherry on top of a masterpiece of a record.
