Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s testimony: The Biggest Takeaways
Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in March 2026 has provided a staggering look into the "capture" of South Africa’s security and municipal systems. Formerly known only as "Witness F," his forced public testimony has implicated high-level politicians and alleged crime bosses.
Here are 5 major revelations from his appearance:
1. The "Big Five" Cartel Connection
Nkosi admitted to deep personal ties with figures allegedly belonging to the "Big Five" organized crime group. He described the late taxi boss Mswazi Msibi as a "father figure" who raised him and referred to controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala as a "brother." Evidence suggests Nkosi acted as a conduit between these figures and the SAPS, even tipping off Matlala before a police raid on his home.
2. Political Patronage in Tshwane Tenders
The testimony revealed a massive "job and tender fixing" network within the City of Tshwane.
The "Juju CIC" List: Nkosi’s WhatsApp chats referenced a list of seven preferred security companies allegedly sent by EFF leader Julius Malema for a critical infrastructure contract.
ActionSA Fallout: MMC Kholofelo Morodi was placed on special leave after evidence showed she leaked internal city recruitment and tender documents to Nkosi, despite him having no official role in the municipality.
3. Links to the AKA and DJ Sumbody Murders
In a chilling turn, Nkosi’s testimony touched on high-profile assassinations:
AKA: He confirmed a direct family link between Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane (killed alongside rapper AKA) and the "Big Five" cartel.
DJ Sumbody: Nkosi was grilled over a message sent three days after the murder of Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, asking why the DJ hadn't been "called to order." Justice Madlanga accused Nkosi of lying when he initially claimed he couldn't remember the context, before later suggesting it was a warning about the DJ's personal life.
4. Massive Unexplained Cash and Bribes
The Commission presented forensic evidence of significant cash movements:
Safe Cash: R385,000 in cash was found in Nkosi’s home safe during a raid. He claimed it belonged to his brother from a truck sale, but evidence leaders pointed out "anomalies" in the dates and the fact that the buyer was actually Nkosi's own lawyer.
The "White Bag": CCTV footage showed Nkosi entering the home of alleged crime boss Katiso “KT” Molefe empty-handed and leaving with a white bag. He also handled over R1.5 million in cash for luxury motorcycle transactions on behalf of his associates.
5. Weaponizing Intelligence and Data
It emerged that Nkosi used his position in the Organised Crime Unit to share sensitive, unauthorized information:
Musa Khawula: Nkosi admitted to sharing a confidential warrant of arrest for blogger Musa Khawula with Matlala.
SABC Breach: He allegedly paid an SABC journalist R500 via e-wallet to obtain Khawula’s private contact details, which Justice Madlanga characterized as a "payment for information."

PROTECTION AND FUTURE...
The future is not something we wait for. It is something we build — starting with our girls.
Protection goes beyond shielding girls from harm. It means giving them the tools, support, and environment to grow into who they are meant to be.
A protected girl today becomes a strong, secure woman tomorrow.
This is more than advocacy. It is responsibility.
As this week ends, let it not end with words. Let it begin with action — in how we raise, teach, support, and stand for every girl.
Because when we protect a girl, we protect the future.
