"sylus?" "yes, sweetie?" you feel each word against your cheek where you're resting against his chest. dressed in nothing but his usual robe and glasses, he's reading leisurely while you doze about. "did you know that today marks two years since we met?" the corner of his mouth twitches but otherwhise he doesn't move. "of course." suddenly, you perk up, "why didn't you say anything?" "why didn't you?" sylus finally looks away from the pages, regarding you with an arched brow. you can't help but pout, a cute crease forming between your eyebrows that sylus wants to smooth out with his finger. "i did. just now," arguing, you raise your chin. it earns you nothing but a faint chuckle, followed by the sound of his book closing. at once, you replace its spot in his lap as his hands splay out over your thighs. "i didn't think today needed any celebrating, kitten," he muses, fingers drawing soothing circles on your heated skin. your own begin to wander, moving from his neck down to his shoulders and towards the collar of his robe─a robe you've gotten a lot more familiar with since the time you've stolen the brooch from him. instinctively, you find the same spot he had it hidden in, only to find it empty, save for the faint traces of his heartbeat beneath. "it doesn't, i just..." you trail off, uncertainty suddenly clinging to your every cell. sylus cocks his head to the side, trying to catch your gaze from where it's fixated on his chest. "tell me." it's a gentle command of encouragement. his voice envelops you like a warm blanket rather than the snap of a whip. "do you wish it could've gone differently sometimes?" finally, your eyes meet his, a pair of rubies sparkling in the candle light. for a moment, he says nothing, contemplating your words carefully before he breathes out, "i don't dwell on the past, sweetie." "i know you don't." you shake your head. you're not letting it go that easily. "i'm not asking you to. but... that menu. at elysium. it was meant for me, right?" the smile tugging at the corner of his mouth tugs at your heart strings. "yes." "you laid it all out. had it all planned." he nods, "i did." "so you did want it to go differently!" his answering sigh fuels your frustration. but before you can make more of a fuss, he pulls you in, wrists crossing at the small of your back while yours wrap around his neck. "kitten, what is this about really?" you shrug, back to pouting as you hide by resuming your earlier position, tucking your head beneath his chin. "i guess i'm just feeling melancholic..." "why?" "it feels like something was stolen from us. the chance of a new beginning... a better one." for the faintest moment, sylus stiffens. you feel it right against your body, but before you can call him out, his hand is weaving through your hair, and his voice is soothing those dreadful thoughts, "if things had gone differently back then, do you think we would be any different today?" you consider it for a moment but ultimately shake your head. you'd still be here, lying in his arms, listening to the beating of his heart. you'd still be a hunter in love with a criminal, and you'd still have found the family that is so precious to you now. "how we meet, kitten... it's merely one point in time. it's what sets everything else into motion, every memory, every laugh, every feud. those are the things that matter to me. and you?" you sigh. bastard... he's always so quick to turn your mood around. the soft smile on your lips can't be helped, but he's not the only smooth talker in this relationship, "you're what matters to me."

The more I think about this whole Valko situation, the weirder it gets... [long brainstorm ahead with hopes of #BringValkoBack] I've been listening to his song Tameless Territory a lot, and there's a line: "I'm howling for love. For an enemy." As a Sylus girl, I remember thinking during his stream, "Oooh, it's the same trope. The fandom will pick it apart and not accept it." And that's exactly what happened. Valko was basically called Temu Sylus with a dash of Caleb. But actually... are Sylus and MC even enemies to lovers? For that trope to work, both parties should feel some level of dislike toward each other. At first, it really looked like they hated each other and then slowly fell in love. However, Sylus kept hinting at his real feelings through phone interactions while MC was still very cold toward him (I remember being annoyed at the game because of how unrelatable MC was and how poorly she treated Sylus). After the two limited myths and the Primordial Chaos card, it's not really as simple as "enemies to lovers" between them. Yes, there's rivalry, but it's more like two greedy villains who met and became attracted to each other. So I'd say they're closer to star crossed lovers. No? Sylus and MC are soulmates who will always end up together, but fate will constantly try to tear them apart. That's why Sylus keeps dropping hints throughout their interactions that fate isn't something you should put your trust in. And how he'll fight against it no matter what, and he wants MC to become strong enough to do the same. Meanwhile, Valko and MC lean much more into the enemies to lovers trope. But not in a "we met and instantly hated each other" way. It's more like, "society tells us we're supposed to hate each other, but you're actually kind of cool... and I'm catching feelings." I think there was even a monologue from Valko saying that a wolf's biggest enemy is the hunter. And MC is literally a hunter. Judging by how the livestream was presented, they clearly established that he was a threat a hunter needed to investigate to keep people safe. So, in a way, MC is "the bad guy" from his perspective. In the song, there's the line "I should follow what the elders say," his family/pack warning Valko to stay away from a hunter who could harm him (Furthermore, in phone call he has dinner plans with an aunt, grandma and cousins. No parents mentioned. Perhaps they were also hunted down in the past to bring tension to their connection later down the line). However, when they meet, he discovers they're biologically meant for each other. That pushes their relationship into more of a forbidden love trope, which starts treading into Caleb's territory. We don't know what Valko's myth or bond would have been, but somehow the balcony scene immediately reminded me not only of Spider-Man (because of the comic book vibes), but also of Romeo and Juliet when paired with his song. And the fact that we had a cinema-themed multi-banner when Valko's teaser and PV dropped baffles me. Why was his puppy like nature interpreted as if he was the predator in the story rather than the hunter aka MC? In addition, the whole boiling pot scene to cheekily introduce house update as well was blown way out of proportion. I guess it depends on perspective and personal history. I grew up with fairy tales, and I remember the story of The Three Little Pigs, where they boiled the big bad wolf who wanted to eat them. Never, no matter how much I dislike the company, would I have considered that they would intentionally include obvious hints of domestic violence against women in a hugely profitable game made for women. It blows my mind that they were called out for that and then those random dates being discovered months after they were added to the game. Furthermore, this game has spent more than 2 years showing us that its seemingly dark characters are actually soft hearted lover-boys. They're not suddenly going to introduce a complete madman who is toxic and is there to torture MC. I don't want to defend a multi-billion dollar company that has treated its global player base like trash, but to be fair, the timing actually seemed more than perfect for Valko's release. The game is obviously designed for at least 6 LIs, where each of the OG3 has "a rival." Xavier is first, and he got Sylus (they're both from Philos). Then came Caleb, who also has a childhood connection to Zayne. And now it was Rafayel's turn. I was soooooo curious to find out what their connection would be. On top of that, he's the 6th LI, it was the 6.0 update, he was supposed to be announced in June, and it was a full moon. Everything aligned perfectly - the yellow stella cores with metal edges, Caleb's mecha arm design, and Valko being a scientist with a metal evol who maybe was involved in that surgery. Gaaah... my brain just can't accept that this whole thing will stay incomplete because of some players who were either too oblivious to recognize references that weren't spoon-fed to them (even though we literally had a movie themed banner), or too parasocial to engage with Love and Deepspace as a whole instead of only caring about their own LI. And I also wanna know if Valko was part of human experiments or was he born that way. Cuz we had those purple wolf ears for a veeery long time + a kitten banner with animal parts moving according to emotions, and the whole cat gene thing pushed even further and turning MC into a kitten one moment and human the next. Yeah, I dislike repetitive animations too. That was a cheap move by the company. But Sylus girls still gush every time our man gets essentially the same animation banner after banner. (I've always found that annoying too, but I accepted it as their very on the nose soulmate symbolism, showing that Sylus remains the same across every reality.) Plus it was unfair to have a 6 month old free content for our 5 LIs to be rerun in this update, instead of releasing new stuff for them as it was for Sylus and Caleb debut. All of those accusations, reheated nachos and whatnot were so unbelievably dumb. And the fact that many of them came from Sylus and Caleb mains made them even dumber, considering both of their LIs were also heavily mischaracterized based on their PVs. Okay. Thank you for reading through my rant filled Ted talk. I've calmed down now. 😅
