A fruit body of Heterobasidion occidentale (= H. annosum s.l.) gifted by our wonderful neighbor. Largest I’ve ever seen! Long live the polypores !!! Happy trails and weekend everybody!

@MycologyScience Could be, would have to see the gills. But I ate a lot of them this year and thay love to grow near the L. proxima on moss. Its pretty rare that they grow single in the woods.

@Myzelika I’ve not yet tried this boletus for consumption. Does the blue color remain when cooked or does it dissolve?

The flesh and pores of this #scarletina #bolete (neoboletus luridiformis) turn dark #blue when touched. No Reticulation (network pattern). It is edible when cooked but be cautious in light of similarities with less #edible boletes. It cooperates with trees to exchange nutrients.
