Medicaid is a lifeline for many families, covering 43% of births in the U.S. However, midwifery services are often under-reimbursed or excluded. Expanding Medicaid to include midwives would provide access to cost-effective, high-quality care for families who need it most.

Midwifery care provides culturally competent, personalized support 🤝🏾, addressing these disparities head-on. Every family deserves safe, respectful maternity care. 💛

Midwives are experts in supporting physiologic births, reducing unnecessary cesareans and their risks. Fewer interventions mean safer outcomes for both mothers and babies, shorter recovery times, and lower healthcare costs. 💪🏾✨

This care desert disproportionately affects rural areas 🌾, where midwives 👩🏾‍⚕️ can play a pivotal role in bridging the gap. Expanding midwifery access ensures that all families—regardless of location—can receive skilled care before, during, and after childbirth. 💛

A recent global analysis revealed that if midwives were fully integrated into healthcare systems: ✨ 41% of maternal deaths could be prevented. ✨ 39% of neonatal deaths could be avoided. ✨ 26% of stillbirths could be averted.

Yet, many healthcare systems underutilize their incredible skills. Expanding the midwifery workforce 👩🏾‍⚕️ and integrating midwives into healthcare systems 🌍 could drastically improve access to care, especially in underserved communities.
