A pair of distant explosions discovered by @NASAFermi and @NASASwift produced the highest-energy light yet seen from these events, called gamma-ray bursts. One of the bursts produced 10 times the peak energy Fermi has seen to date: go.nasa.gov/2D1DmBp

Our Fermi satellite can see a wider range of light than any other telescope ↔️ @NASAFermi catches light with 10,000 to thousands to billions of times the energy our eyes can see, allowing us to discover cool things about the most extreme parts of the universe! #UniqueTalentDay

Neat example of the myriad ways astronomers use Gravitational Lensing 🔍 to probe distant parts of our universe. Take a look at svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/11437 for a look at the first gamma-ray measurement of a gravitational lens #FermiScience

Through observations of a distant gravitationally-lensed galaxy, a new Science study determines how ionizing photons escape from galaxies, a process that played an important role in the evolution of the early Universe. ($) fcld.ly/yi4v32x #Astronomy

#FermiPeople Congratulations to all the Fermi team member coauthors and their colleagues for their calculation of the Hubble Constant using the attenuation of extragalactic background radiation observed by @NASAFermi and @MAGICtelescopes. arxiv.org/pdf/1903.12097…

Pulsars are actually pretty scary places to be! 😱 Their gravitational pull is so strong, you would, ahem, seriously compromise your health if you got too close! Five totally weird things about pulsars: bit.ly/2Ns4FJY #HappyHalloween #HappyHalloween2019 🎃
NASA Universe@NASAUniverse

.@NASAFermi has detected almost all of our galaxy’s known black widow pulsars, which have a sinister, spidery tendency to devour their mates. 🕷️ Learn what happens when an unsuspecting star gets caught in a pulsar’s web: go.nasa.gov/2MkA67j 🕸️ #HalloweenIsComing

#FermiPeople! Meet Andrea Gokus, graduate student at Remeis Observatory (@DrRemeis) and University of Wuerzburg. Andrea uses multi-wavelength observations to understand extreme events in active galaxies, when she is not playing cello for her band. 🎻

Flare Advocates like Andrea are typically the first science "eyes" on Fermi LAT data, poring over the results of initial analysis and alerting the community to anything interesting going on in the sky. 👀🛰️
Dr. Andrea Gokus@andreagokus

Being a Flare Advocate for the LAT of @NASAFermi is exciting! Especially when you get the chance to report an outburst of an interesting AGN like PKS 2004-447 during your shift.

In Sep 2017, IceCube found a neutrino with energy 300 trillion electron volts. Fermi showed that at the time of the neutrino detection, a blazar, TXS 0506+056, was the most active in #gammarays that it had been in a decade. And thereby hangs a tale: go.nasa.gov/3630NaD

Fascinating! As Fermi is constantly scanning the entire sky, it can use its sharper vision to narrow down the region where a neutrino detected by IceCube could have originated. This tells other telescopes with smaller fields of view where to point and look for lower energy light.

Looking forward to the interesting entries this time. The Fermi community embraces a broad range of creative activity. Here are some examples inspired by gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) which are some of the most energetic explosions in the universe: go.nasa.gov/2nOxHdX 🕺💃

A whimsical look at solar flares, the release of rapidly built up magnetic energy from the Sun's surface. Fermi sees #gammarays created when a flare rapidly reorders magnetic fields, accelerating charged particles to very high energies and smashing them into the Sun's surface.

Welcome to the family of Sun-gazers, #Chandrayaan2. Your sensitive X-ray observations of #solarflares will be tremendously useful. 🌞
ISRO@isro

#ISRO Solar flare measured by XSM instrument of #Chandrayaan2 and GOES-15 of US during 30th September to 1st October 2019. Clearly XSM provides very detailed information which will help in understanding various processes on the Sun. Details at bit.ly/323LrQT
