#Macaque #monkeys are frequently used in toxicology testing but their specific genes which are vital for drug metabolism (when a drug works through the body) are not the same as in humans. This is partly responsible for differences in drug metabolism between monkeys and humans.

Worldwide, over 115 million animals are used in research and testing. They are force-fed products, infected with disease, burnt, blinded, electrodes are implanted into their brains, and more. This #WorldDayforLaboratoryAnimals, help highlight that it doesn’t have to be this way.

ADI attended a protest against animal testing, as two petitions were debated in Parliament. The petition to end the use of animals for toxicity tests closed with nearly 110,000 signatures, while Will Young's petition on banning dogs for testing does not close until April.
