Students at Loyola University Chicago are turning compassion into action through PAWS. Supported by NAVS and led by Dr. Pam Osenkowski, NAVS Science Advisor and faculty advisor, they recently hosted a service night for local shelters. “They’re showing up and doing the work.”

As an undergraduate, Filipa Ribeiro worked in an animal research lab. After an experience that stayed with her, she realized she wanted to take a different path. Now she develops human-based models to study infections like gonorrhea and chlamydia.
