A Russian disinformation network called Storm-1516 has been operating across the West since 2023, publishing fabricated stories and interfering in the political processes of foreign states, Bloomberg reports. Linked to the GRU and believed to include former operatives from Yevgeny Prigozhin's troll factory, the group has been accused of interfering in elections in the US, Germany and Hungary. Among its recent operations was a fake BBC report claiming a stolen Paul Cézanne painting had been spotted in Zelensky's office.

@SocAndPol Early stages, but good news. Hopefully it translates into a binding agreement.

🇭🇺🇪🇺CONGRATULATIONS HUNGARY!
How fast can Orban run away?
Unless he flees to Moscow now, he will be spending the rest of his life in prison.
Magyar needed 133 seats for constitutional super majority. He is now projected to get 136 seats with 53.45% counted.

Igor Sushko@igorsushko
🚨 BREAKING: Magyar (TISZA) now projected to have super majority in Hungary. 135 seats. 45.71% votes counted so far.

🇪🇺🇭🇺 Hungary Votes Out Orbán After 16 Years — Europe’s NATO Veto Is Gone
Viktor Orbán has conceded defeat to Péter Magyar, with Tisza on course to win 68% of seats compared to just 29% for Fidesz with nearly half the votes counted. Voter turnout reached its highest levels since the end of Communist rule, reflecting deep fatigue with Orbán’s illiberal rule and a newly unified opposition. The result is transformational for Europe, Orbán’s defeat removes NATO’s most reliable Kremlin asset and ends Hungary’s systematic blocking of EU aid to Ukraine, coming just days after JD Vance rallied alongside Orbán in Budapest.

Will the US leave NATO?
After Trump saw that he couldn't even defeat Iran, he'll reconsider.
But with his deranged mind, predictions are impossible anyway.
Aaron Rupar@atrupar
Q: Is the US considering withdrawing from NATO? LEAVITT: It's something the president has discussed and I think it's something the president will be discussing in a couple of hours with Secretary General Rutte
English

“This was a test for NATO — and they failed it”
Press Sec: It’s quite sad that NATO turned their backs on the American people over the last six weeks when it’s the American people who have been funding their defense.
President Trump looks forward to having a very frank and candid conversation with Secretary Rutte.
NEXTA@nexta_tv
❗️US may withdraw from NATO in the coming hours Donald Trump is set to discuss a historic issue — a potential US withdrawal from the Alliance — with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the White House reports.
English

@pl_european The problem is the paradigm under which the discussion itself occurs. Whatever it refers to it should have no place in the consideration of western foreign policy.

@joni_askola NATO is more mutually beneficial than Trump/MAGA care to admit. The alternative to a Euro-American led world is a Chinese-Russian led world

@jurgen_nauditt He’s an interesting figure, but all of western leadership post soviet collapse acted with shocking naïveté toward Russia. In the case of he and Obama it simply became less forgivable as they let Putin march straight into Crimea, having learned nothing from Bush’s mistakes.

🇺🇸🇪🇺 Trump Threatens to Quit NATO After Allies Refuse to Join His War
Trump told The Telegraph he is “beyond reconsideration” on NATO membership, calling the alliance “a paper tiger,” and confirmed to Reuters he is “absolutely” considering withdrawal — angered that European allies declined to join the Iran war or help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The threat is legally hollow without a two-thirds Senate vote, and analysts note Trump cannot exit NATO while simultaneously fighting a war that depends on European bases. His approval rating has hit a second term low as gas prices approach $4 a gallon.

There are forces influencing US policy that stand to benefit from the US pulling out of NATO. This would be a long term disaster for both the US and Europe. The US has has taken it’s eye off the ball regarding Ukraine and European security, and right wing parties in the EU (Russian backed) which wish to make to make Europe energy dependent on Russia again are gaining popularity.
Europe as a net importer of energy and rare earths is in a precarious spot, and the US risks becoming an overgrown backwater in the western hemisphere that is ultimately beneath a Russian-Chinese alliance. The maintaining of transatlantic relations is critical to prevent such a world order. First NATO must outlast the Trump administration.

🇪🇺🇺🇸 Politico: A closed meeting of leaders of about 10 European countries took place in Helsinki over Washington's possible withdrawal from NATO.
✅ They discussed a new security system in case the US refuses to participate in NATO.
✅ America covers about 70% of all NATO expenses. Without it, the Alliance almost loses its key capabilities - aviation, air defense, intelligence and nuclear deterrence.
✅ Most EU countries have not added money to their armies for years. Only some states meet the norm of 2% of GDP on defense.
✅ Iran became a point of conflict, because Europe does not want to participate in the US war in the Middle East.
✅ The closed conference in Helsinki discussed the creation of independent EU military forces.
✅ If the US distances itself from NATO, this could weaken Russia's deterrence.

@robertevans93 @Osint613 “you now wish to say Trump's foreign policy is Bush-era? b/c they both have armed conflicts in the ME?”
…yes? That’s a fair thing to draw comparison on, actually. Lmfao.
English

@NA__Press @Osint613 To add to the rest of the failed argument you have attempted, you now wish to say Trump's foreign policy is Bush-era? b/c they both have armed conflicts in the ME? I am not seeing the resemblance, to be honest. Bush loved the Euros, loved Canada, wasn't hip to Japan or India...
English

@robertevans93 @Osint613 Lmao sorry to disappoint. Enjoy your Bush-era foreign policy.
English

@NA__Press @Osint613 Well, you show you're an idiot when you lay such nonsense at my feet. I have been a registered Ind for over 3 decades. I served in defending NATO & Europe. I also served in the ME. Your bumper sticker ad hominem attacks fail w/me.
English

@robertevans93 @Osint613 They are right not to value it. And when Vance or whoever else runs in 2028 and says “I never supported that mess” you will vote for them and nod your head in agreement. Just like you all did when Trump said the same about Bush’s wars, which enjoyed *far* more public support.
English

@NA__Press @Osint613 Having an ally object to an action isn't an issue. Having an ally obstruct an action is.
The alliance is done, b/c it has no value once basing & overflight are removed. Not b/c of Europe doesn't value the Iran conflict.
English

@IAPonomarenko The results of America becoming a breeding ground for political resentment. Peasant revolts generally don’t last long and this genre of politics has a history of burning itself out quickly.
English

I’ll say one thing -- this whole idea of “we are surrounded by enemies, everyone owes us, we’ve always been cheated and robbed, and now we must take back what is rightfully ours” is a very, very dangerous thing.
It’s great for irresponsible demagogues and populists to quickly score political points by feeding on mass resentment and sowing division.
This idea of “they are our enemies and everything is their fault” is incredibly easy to sell and very tempting to buy, because it seems to offer simple answers to very complex problems.
But history shows quite well that this kind of populist revanchism has never led anyone to anything good.
Nowhere and never does the ordinary hard-working person benefit from it -- the only winner is the shameless populist, the demagogue, the liar, and the hypocrite who presents himself as a messiah for the masses and feeds off anger, the thirst for revenge, hostility, and human stupidity.
English

And I would add, being that they aren’t vassal states their opinions on these matters should be considered carefully.
JD Vance himself (I’m not a fan, but I’m sure you are) said Europe should have been “more willing to stand up” against the Iraq invasion to save the world from that strategic disaster. By your logic, France and Germany stopped being allies in 2003. Vance apparently agrees they were right.
English

NATO obligates members to collective defense. It does not obligate them to participate in offensive wars. The shoe has been on the other foot before, by the way. Eisenhower not only refused to support Britain and France at Suez in 1956, he forced them to withdraw through economic pressure. The Europeans are critical allies, not vassal states.
