Discussions, led alongside PCC Executive Director Dorah Modise, focused on key provincial initiatives, including: • Greening Programme & Kaalspruit Climate Resilience Programme • Integrated Waste Facility & separation at source • Gauteng Heat Action Plan • Climate Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) system Collaboration will also extend to climate finance, public awareness, and platforms like the Gauteng Climate Change Indaba. These partnerships mark a critical step toward a more resilient, inclusive, and climate-responsive Gauteng.

Gauteng’s vulnerability to climate change, driven by urbanisation, infrastructure pressures, and inequality, requires coordinated, high-impact action. The Department, led by MEC Ewan Botha, then met with the Presidential Climate Commission to align on programmes that advance a just transition and strengthen climate resilience. The engagement builds on commitments made at the Gauteng Climate Change Forum and reflects a shared urgency to protect vulnerable communities while transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

Key areas of collaboration identified include: • Waste management and circular economy initiatives • Climate finance opportunities • Addressing climate risk to infrastructure and insurance The engagement also explored NBI’s participation in provincial platforms like the Premier’s Expert Advisory Committee on Climate Change, ensuring business expertise informs Gauteng’s climate agenda. Both parties committed to ongoing technical engagements, with a shared focus on scaling nature-based solutions and strengthening municipal-level resilience.
