A starting point for restorative justice is acknowledging our ability to cause harm despite our best intentions. Here is an easy script to follow when harm has been caused: “I’m sorry. I own the impact of my words/ actions. To repair this harm, I will [ insert action here ].”

When presented with a complaint that a policy is unjust, some people just shrug, "That's life" or "Hey, it is what it is." Their inspiration must be Plessy v. Ferguson, which described racial segregation as being "in the nature of things" #conservatism_masquerading_as_realism
