NCRI Commissioner Mr. @LibanEgal extended Eid al-Adha greetings to the Somali people, praying for peace, unity, and prosperity, while expressing solidarity with refugees, Asylum Seekers and IDPs in the country.

Today, NCRI Commissioner Mr. Liban Egal, expressed his sincere appreciation to the @MoIFARSomalia, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, for his official visit, which reflects the Government’s strong commitment to institutional cooperation and durable solutions for refugees & IDPs in Somalia.

The Commissioner of NCRI, Mr. Liban Egal, held his first introductory meeting with all staff, to strengthen collaboration and align efforts with the Commission’s mandate. He emphasized integrity, accountability, and teamwork as key to improving services for IDPs and refugees.

Today in Mogadishu, Mr Liban Abdi Egal officially assumed office as the new Commissioner of NCRI. The ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Interior, @AHakimAshkir, and attended by MPs, Directors General, representatives of @UNHCRSom & civil society representatives

NCRI, in coordination with the Office of the Presidential Envoy and with support from @iom_somalia and the @EU_in_Somalia today received 275 young returnees from Libya at the NCRI Reception Centre in Mogadishu, where emergency assistance was provided.

(3/3) Ms. Song commended NCRI’s services to vulnerable communities and reaffirmed UNHCR’s readiness to support strengthened service delivery. She also welcomed Somalia’s Refugee, Asylum Seeker, and IDP laws, before touring NCRI facilities and engaging with service recipients.

(2/3) The Commissioner briefed the delegation on the long-standing cooperation between NCRI and UNHCR, particularly in advancing the protection of refugees, IDPs, and returning Somali refugees.

(1/3) NCRI Commissioner @ahmedkaan21 received the Deputy Representative of @UNHCRSom, Ms. Jing Song, at NCRI HQ, following her recent appointment.

(3/3) The process engages diverse community groups including students, youth, women, intellectuals, and community professionals to better understand the real challenges facing vulnerable populations and identify solutions grounded in their lived experiences.

(2/3) Conducted at the end of the year, the joint assessment gathers community perspectives on projects implemented over the past year, while ensuring their feedback and guidance help inform and shape upcoming interventions.

(1/3) A joint assessment is currently underway at the HQ of the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI), led collaboratively by NCRI and UNHCR, to assess the living conditions of refugees, asylum seekers, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

(3/3) DC @mohamed_a_salad encouraged the trainees to fully benefit from the programme and conveyed NCRI’s appreciation to @migrationsverk for their continued support and to @HanoAcademy for leading the technical training sessions.

(2/3) Delivered in partnership with the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA), the initiative aims to expand income opportunities for vulnerable returnees by providing access to in-demand skills and a structured pathway toward economic self-reliance.

(1/3) NCRI yesterday launched a new Technical Training Initiative in Mogadishu, supporting 30 young returnees to gain practical skills. The onboarding, held at @HanoAcademy HQ in Hodan, was attended by DC @mohamed_a_salad, Hano Academy staff, and the selected participants.

(2/2) This meeting, which brings together high-level reps from all IGAD member states aims to improve effective protection and comprehensive solutions for Forcibly Displaced Persons in the IGAD region.

(1/2) A delegation from the FGS, led by Commissioner @ahmedkaan21, are currently in Djibouti city for a 2-day @igadsecretariat Annual Project Steering Committee Meeting.

Commissioner @ahmedkaan21 recently met with @DRCSomalia Country Director, Mr. Filip Lozinski, to discuss strengtheningcollaboration between NCRI & DRC in support of displaced communities. Both sides reviewed ongoing efforts & agreed to deepen cooperation in cross-cutting areas.

Commissioner @ahmedkaan21 paid a visit yesterday to @ACTEDHoA Country Office, where he met Country Director Anna Martyres and Deputy CD, Sarah. Discussions focused on cooperation in health, WASH, jobs creation & durable solutions.

The Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia conducted the third and final reading of the IDP Bill and officially approved it. The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, extended his gratitude to the Honourable Senators for fulfilling their constitutional duty and approving this important legislation. He highlighted that the passage of the bill lays a strong foundation for protecting the rights and dignity of internally displaced persons, strengthening national efforts to provide assistance, and promoting sustainable solutions to prevent future displacement across Somalia.
