We loved hosting 11 MA/AMA grad students for Recruitment Weekend! 🎉 They explored our Math programs, heard research talks, connected with current grad students, and learned about internships, fellowships, and campus life. Excited about the future! 📚✨

Now that snow is (hopefully) behind us and spring is ahead 🌸❄️ Every snowflake is full of math—hexagonal symmetry, fractals, self-similarity, branching, angles, probability, and growth patterns. Turns out winter was doing calculus all along ➕❄️✨

We recently hosted a Math Circle event to celebrate Fibonacci Day, and it was a tremendous success. We had an outstanding turnout from local families—about 100 students registered, and more than 300 people attended overall.

Our Math Team had a fantastic time participating in the first Wolfpack STEM Tailgate outside Carter-Finley Stadium during FanFest before the football game! 🏈🔬 Throughout the event, the team showcased the exciting academic programs our department offers.

Andrew Sageman-Furnas studies the geometry of nets and he was involved in the research in figuring out the shape changes and implications of how to dance on the nets (imagine trying to stand, let alone *dance*, on a hammock!?).

Our first Colloquium for the year will be given by Dr. Emiel DenHartog (NCSU) on Monday, September 15, from 4:15–5:15 pm, in SAS 4201.

This summer, two of our faculty members,Yairon Cid-Ruiz and Jacob Matherne  took part in Collaborate@ICERM, a highly selective program hosted by the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM) at Brown University.
