Teachers struggling to get by are 14 percentage points less likely to plan on staying in the profession for the long term than those living comfortably. Done well, student teaching can make a novice teacher as effective as one with years of experience, help districts reduce shortages, and improve retention once new teachers get to the classroom. Yet most states have very little visibility into what's actually happening in clinical practice. They can't see which prep programs offer strong experiences, whether their policies are being faithfully implemented, or whether student teacher placements are actually aligned with districts’ hiring needs. Better data can transform clinical practice from a “black box” into a strategic pipeline for effective teachers. @NCTQ partnered with @caldercenter on a new brief offering a practical framework for states ready to get there.
