Admittedly, the game is not yet over…but if Alabama doesn’t rally here in the final 8 minutes, the Tide will be the first team in the history of the 12-team college football playoff to lose to a team that had to suffer through a bye week prior. They are also the first team to lose by 5 touchdowns but also complete a double flea-flicker in the 4th quarter

USC is concerned about the impact of losing to Notre Dame late in the year but also worried about the impact of *beating* Notre Dame late in the year?
Killing off a great rivalry over this incredibly unlikely outcome is bananas.

@georgewrighster Consider this scenario. 9-2 USC beats 10-1 Notre Dame in the last game of the 2026 season so both are 10-2. As a result, the committee ranks USC 11th and ND 12th due to head to head. Yet due to the MOU, ND jumps USC to get the playoff spot. So why would you play them?

@DanWolken I just think in that scenario the committee would bump Notre Dame to 13th and problem solved.
But USC is going at 10-2 with a win on Thanksgiving weekend over a top 5 Notre Dame regardless.
But now Notre Dame may play Syracuse then, finish 11-1, and USC can’t jump them.
