No two days are the same at our Sea Turtle Hospital!🩺🐢 Kristen Luise, senior biologist at the Aquarium, has supported countless turtle intakes and releases over the past five years. Here’s what it’s like to be part of the team caring for these patients: bit.ly/47re7XJ

Percy, our gag grouper, enjoys a good “sand bath” every once in a while. During these "baths," our divers gently let sand fall, and Percy seems to appreciate it! While the reason behind this behavior is still a bit of a mystery, it may help with skin maintenance and cleaning.

You won’t find mermaids at the Aquarium, but you might spot a mermaid’s purse! 🧜 These rectangular, brownish-green capsules aren’t full of gadgets and gizmos—each one holds an egg! “Mermaid’s purse” is the nickname for the egg case of a skate. #Skates #FishFacts

Say hello to Marie, our (lucky) green moray eel in the GOT! 🍀💚 Marie is named for oceanographer Marie Tharp, who helped create the first maps of the Atlantic Ocean floor. She also shares a middle name with one of our longtime Aquarium divers, making the name extra special!

A little gold for St. Patrick’s Day week. ✨💛 The goldentail moray gets its name from the bright golden tip of its tail and the yellow spots scattered across its body. Like many moray eels, it spends much of the day tucked into reef crevices!

Are you an early bird or a night owl? Many species of sharks and rays are a little bit of both! Next time you’re up close to one of the animals in our Trust Family Foundation Shark and Ray Touch Tank, you can think about how their natural rhythms differ from your own!

Little skates are often mistaken for stingrays, but there are key differences: stingrays have whip-like tails with venomous spines, skates have tails without these stingers. Most stingrays give live birth, skates lay egg cases called mermaid’s purses! #LittleSkate #FishFacts

When enrichment meets expert-level problem solving! 🥔🐙 Our giant Pacific octopus made quick work of opening this Mrs. Potato Head to get to the treats inside. Enrichment like this encourages natural problem-solving behaviors and keeps curious (octopus) minds engaged.
