📛🏳️🌈Hannaford prices are routinely lower in wealthy communities like Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth. Charges more for identical items in less wealthier communities like Lewiston.

this week flyers:
Falmouth Flyer / Lewiston Flyer

@OwedNada 🤔Tell that to all of the workers who feel mistreated by the company, or the lower-income, rural Mainers who are being charged a premium on basic groceries because Hannaford operates a monopoly in their area.
English

@NEConsumers Just to stick it to you I shopped at 2 different Hannafords yesterday!
English

@MediocreKabuki We want the company to improve its practices, that's all. Check out the website WhatHappenedtoHannaford.com Nothing about gov control in it!
English

@NEConsumers They have been owned by ADUSA for a long time. You just want to push for government control of the food supply which is a horrible idea.
English

Our report found that Hannaford's prices are higher in rural, lower-income communities. @PressHerald broke the story this morning: pressherald.com/2026/01/15/rep…

@BobHiggins_PDS Outed? We're pretty public about it. The New England Consumer Alliance is behind these ads. And we're calling out Hannaford for its shameful track record. Simple as that.
English

@NEConsumers At some point whoever is behind these ads will be outed so they can be whipped like dogs.

@TVTEDDY They are attributed to Hannaford customers who have come to us and shared their frustrations. We've anonymized them to protect their privacy.
English

@TheRedFox_YT Really sorry to hear that. We've heard similar concerns from other employees. If you want to share more about your experience, even anonymously, we have a form on the website - whathappenedtohannaford.com. Or if you'd like to help from the inside push for change, let us know!
English

@NEConsumers I work there currently and I can tell you it's not just the big people that own the company that don't care it's the management too. My store has gone to hell in the last year and a half because the hire-ups don't care anymore.
English

@NEConsumers I recently bought split chicken breasts there that REEKED of feces! Absolutely disgusting. Had to throw them out!
English

@MaryupinMaine Why not Hannaford? As consumers, we’ve gotten so used to being treated poorly that we often don’t even notice we’re being taken advantage of anymore. But we can’t get complacent –– or worse, start defending the companies that abuse us or our neighbors.
English

@stangga43968607 The New England Consumer Alliance is a community arm of CRFB, led by numerous volunteers throughout New England. It'd be impressive if one person could carry this out themselves! Do you disagree with the criticisms against Hannaford?
English

For everyone who's wondering about this campaign. I easily found this information online.

The New England Consumer Alliance isn’t some big grassroots New England group. It’s actually a campaign run by a tiny nonprofit out of Pennsylvania called the Center for Responsible Food Business.
That nonprofit is basically one person — Taylor Warren — and they’re the same person writing the posts on the “What Happened to Hannaford?” site. It doesn’t seem that the funding is coming from Hannaford’s competitors or anything like that. Filings show that it mostly comes from big philanthropic foundations like Good Ventures and Open Philanthropy, which tend to fund animal-welfare and corporate-accountability projects.
So TL;DR: NECA is basically a branded campaign run by a small nonprofit with national foundation money behind it, not a big New England consumer movement.

@MaryupinMaine Customers are fed up with Hannaford's practices. We're just telling the truth. Learn more at WhatHappenedToHannaford.com
English

@NEConsumers NECS seems to be an economic terrorist group which is trying to discredit a very good company. Shame on the New England Consumer Alliance.
English

@myWinnipesaukee Probably doing it because customers are tired of the price gouging for low products! Check out WhatHappenedToHannaford.com :)
English

@mainenewshound thanks for tagging us, we're looking deeper into this issue!

@vote4deez Why is it wrong to call out a company for being bad to customers, workers, and more?
English

@NEConsumers Singling out Hannaford is wrong. Have you done your research to actually look at prices at other chains?
English

Our first campaign, What Happened to Hannaford, tells the story of when a company prioritizes profits over affordability, quality, and ethical standards. It's not even "Your Local Grocer" like it claims to be, it's owned by a mega-corporation in Europe!
We're mobilizing concerned shoppers in New England, starting in Maine. We're digging deeper into Hannaford's track record and sparking a serious conversation about what needs to change for the company to regain our trust.

English

@NEConsumers You're just another liberal NGO that won't even list your address on your website.
If you don't like Hannaford's prices or policies, then don't shop there.
Trying to regulate prices is just pushing your communist agenda.
English

@crankypants36 Nope and nope! Check out our website to learn more - whathappenedtohannaford.com
English

What is with this Hannaford bashing suddenly going on? Is this another soros funded operation? What’s the end goal I wonder, government controlled grocery stores ?
New England Consumer Alliance@NEConsumers
High prices. Low quality. Corporate ownership. Hannaford isn't what it used to be, and customers across New England are taking notice. Learn why shoppers are asking: What happened to Hannaford?
English

We're the New England Consumer Alliance, a new community of neighbors standing up for fairness and quality in the places we shop.
From grocery stores to everyday essentials, New Englanders deserve the best. We’re here to keep companies honest and put consumers first.
Follow along as we get started, and reach out if you'd like to volunteer or put an issue on our radar.
