NERC, Imo State Collaborate to Advance Electricity Access The Governor of Imo State paid a courtesy visit on 11 March 2026, to the Commission to congratulate the Chairman on his appointment and to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration aimed at advancing the electricity market within the state. The visit underscored a shared commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial partnership that will drive sustainable power sector development in Imo State. In his remarks, the Governor sought the support of the Commission in ensuring the effective functioning of the state’s electricity market. He also appealed for the Chairman’s intervention in strengthening efforts toward achieving a more stable and reliable power supply, as a critical enabler of economic growth and development in the state. In response, the Chairman commended the Governor for his proactive interest and demonstrated commitment to improving electricity supply in Imo State. He acknowledged that the provision of subnational electricity services is a fundamental responsibility of government and praised the Governor for taking decisive steps in that regard. While reiterating the Commission’s support for government-led initiatives, the Chairman emphasized the Commission’s role as an independent regulator, noting that its responsibility is to ensure fairness, transparency, and regulatory compliance across the sector. He further urged all stakeholders to adhere strictly to established regulatory processes, particularly with respect to obtaining the necessary licensing and approvals for any grid-connected power projects. The Chairman also reiterated the Commission’s commitment to supporting Imo State within the bounds of its regulatory mandate. Additionally, the Chairman used the opportunity to advocate for the licensing of the Imo State electricity subsidiary company, noting that such a step would strengthen customer protection frameworks within the state and enable the proper administration and remittance of regulatory charges to the appropriate state authority. #Electricity #NERC #Imo #ISERC #Uzodimma

NERC ORDERS REGISTRATION OF GRID-CONNECTED PRIVATE TRANSMISSION SUBSTATIONS The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued the Order on the Registration and Authorisation of Grid-Connected Private Transmission Substations (NERC/2026/013), effective 9 March 2026, to strengthen oversight of privately owned substations connected to Nigeria’s national grid. The Order establishes a regulatory framework requiring owners of private transmission substations used by bulk electricity consumers to obtain an Independent Electricity Transmission Network Operator (IETNO) Permit before operating or connecting to the grid. The directive was introduced to improve grid reliability, safety, and operational visibility following frequent transmission line trips reported by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). Under the Order: NISO must submit to NERC a comprehensive list of all existing Private Transmission Substation Owners (PTSOs) and notify them of the provisions of the Order within five (5) days. Existing PTSOs must apply to NERC for an IETNO permit within 45 days. New PTSOs must obtain the permit before connecting to the grid, as non-compliance attracts regulatory sanctions. NISO will deploy IoT-based metering systems at substation interconnection points within 120 days. Operators must submit monthly operational reports, while NISO will conduct inspections to ensure compliance. Overall, the Order aims to enhance grid stability, regulatory oversight, and compliance with the Grid Code in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry. #Electricity #NERC #Transmission #NISO #Substation #IETNO

For the past 3 - 4 months, the supply availability on my feeder CIRCULAR ROAD radiating from RSTV 33 has been less than the required supply for Band A feeders. To be fair to the DISCO, the supply is averaging 15 hours/day. The compensation is not enough. @NERCNG, pls downgrade us
