Good morning to everyone in Massachusetts who knows these outrageous energy costs are the result of deliberate decisions. Maura Healey served as Attorney General from 2015 to 2023 and publicly stated in 2022 that she stopped two natural gas pipelines from coming into this state. During that same period, Massachusetts lost massive amounts of reliable power. Brayton Point closed in 2017, removing 1,500 megawatts of generation. Pilgrim Nuclear shut down in 2019, taking another 700 megawatts offline. Mystic Generating Station closed in 2024, eliminating roughly 1,400 megawatts that helped keep the Boston area powered during peak demand. That’s more than 3,000 megawatts of dependable energy gone. Offshore wind was supposed to replace it. SouthCoast Wind walked away from a 1,200 megawatt contract in 2023 and paid a 60-million-dollar penalty. Vineyard Wind has faced blade failures, quality control issues, and after a year is producing about 400 megawatts. This isn’t politics. It’s simple math. We removed reliable power before replacements were ready, and families are paying the price through higher bills and a fragile grid. These are the facts. The question is whether Beacon Hill is willing to acknowledge them.
