When I use the word "setup", what I'm specifically referring to is a stock that: 1) Had a prior leg up - preferably 30% or higher from the recent lows 2) Pulled back in the vicinity of the 10 or (preferably) 20-day EMA 3) Traded in a tight range for at least 2-5 days along that MA. When I say I don't see many "setups" - I'm referring to the fact that I don't see very many situations that meet the above 3 criteria. Maybe the stock has the first leg, but hasn't pulled back yet. Maybe the stock has the first leg and pulled back, but isn't trading very tightly near the MA. I need to see all three in place. This is my "setup" - the pretext, the prerequisite requirements before I even start looking for a breakout. Once I see setups building out, I flag them and wait for a breakout from the 2-5 day range. Maybe it never breaks out and just falls apart through the MAs. That's fine. I'm not trying to guess which one will breakout. I wait for them to breakout, prove themselves that they want to continue the recent momentum. Then I let the odds play out. In a good market backdrop, many of these will setup, breakout, and follow through. Trading will feel easy and money will come quickly. In a poor backdrop, many of these setups will never breakout, or they will breakout and quickly reverse. Trading will feel hard and progress will be slow to nonexistent. It's important to pay attention. How many setups are available? Hardly any? Take that as a sign. How are setups working? Are they following through or shitting the bed? That's another great sign. The market is always sending clues. Are you listening to the message or ignoring them because of your own biases and preconcieved notions?

@NFT2277 I certainly wait for the breakout because many of the setups don’t breakout or the length of the consolidation varies from stock to stock, so there’s an opportunity cost to be tied up in stocks hoping they break out rather than being in the stocks actually breaking out.

youtube.com/watch?v=SBFPgb… Qullamaggie: "When you have a stock with extreme volatility and it gets really tight, usually that tightness is followed by volatility and that's exactly what happens. If you study hundreds of examples of this you will understand it's the same movie over and over again. I bought it when it broke out of this range; you see it's the same thing...tight ranges. Focus on tight ranges. Doesn't matter if it's on the 60 Minute, the daily, weekly - tight range is what you should be focusing on. So many people focus on these random breakout setups that are coming off wide and loose areas. Wide and loses is for losers, and tight is for winners. Focus on tight setups on volatile stocks. This is why you should focus on high ADR stocks versus low ADR stocks" Qullamaggie's insights into trading revolve around a central theme: the predictability of patterns in the stock market. One of the most consistent patterns he emphasizes is the behavior of stocks with extreme volatility that suddenly enter a phase of tightness or consolidation. This tightness is not just a random occurrence; it's a precursor to another bout of volatility. It's like the calm before the storm. When a stock that's known for its wild swings starts to move sideways in a tight range, it's building energy. This energy, once released, often results in explosive moves. Qullamaggie's strategy is to capitalize on this. He waits for the stock to break out of its tight range and then makes his move. This approach is rooted in countless observations and studies of similar scenarios. As he puts it, "If you study hundreds of examples of this, you will understand it's the same movie over and over again." The timeframe of this tightness doesn't matter. Whether it's on a 60-minute chart, a daily, or even a weekly chart, the principle remains the same. Tight ranges are indicators of potential big moves. However, not all tight ranges are created equal. Qullamaggie warns against getting lured into "random breakout setups" that originate from wide and loose areas. These setups lack the predictability and consistency that tight ranges in volatile stocks offer. He succinctly states, "Wide and loose is for losers, and tight is for winners." Furthermore, he emphasizes the importance of focusing on stocks with a high Average Daily Range (ADR). High ADR stocks inherently have more volatility, which means when they do enter a tight range, the subsequent breakout can be much more significant. In essence, the key takeaway from Qullamaggie's insights is to prioritize predictability and consistency in trading. By focusing on tight ranges in volatile stocks, traders can position themselves to capitalize on the explosive moves that often follow periods of consolidation.

On March 9, Circle initiated a wire transfer to remove its funds from SVB as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation-insured bank was about to shut operations. However, two days later, on March 11, Circle confirmed that the wire transfers were not wholly processed, with $3.3 billion of USDC reserves still with SVB.
