Both play integral roles in “Keeping the Warfighter in the Fight” by ensuring the operational readiness of units assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and the health of those living and working on the base.

In honor of National Public Health Week 2026, we celebrate our Occupational Medicine and Preventive Medicine teams!

Each was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for their service aboard the clinic. Synoground was also awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her selection as the 2025 Sailor of the Year.

During the celebration, Chiefs and fellow Sailors and civilians heard a reading of the Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle’s “C-Note” before the cutting and serving of a ceremonial cake.

Helmke served aboard the clinic from February 2024 to January 2026, providing care for nearly 3,300 patients and leading two Command Training Days while assigned to the Patient Centered Medical Home and Staff Training and Education departments.
