We have very sadly lost the battle to overcome Sir Gino’s ailment and he has had to be put to sleep at the veterinary hospital this morning.
He has been fighting from severe deep-seated infections that he had overcome last year prior to his brilliant return in the Christmas Hurdle but this time it had spread too far although his fractured pelvis was healing well.
He was not only brilliant but one of the nicest kindest horses you could ever wish to see and this leaves an awful hole in Seven Barrows this morning and a very sad day for Joe & Marie Donnelly. They have had some wonderful horses over the years and they both care so much for them so losing such a young star with his life in front of him is particularly cruel.
Sir Gino was unbeaten in all his 7 starts including 3 Grade 1’s over hurdles and an amazing display in a Grade 2 Chase on his one and only start over fences.
We would have to say that he was just at least as good as any of all the amazing horses we have been lucky enough to have trained. Unforgettable in every way.

@nialltierney25 Gaelic warrior - immaculate.
Majborough - confidence just went to pieces after the mistake.
Mydaddypaddy - Arkle. If he jumps well with the way he travels he'll give Old Park Star another battle!

@RacingJim92 Tbf to the owners they were clear all season they wanted to get to Cheltenham. Was their only request. Not sure the trainer giving him 4 runs beforehand including a slog lto give him the required prep. Gordy got his g1 and prize money but it cost today

Awful, never happy was he
I know owners pay the bills and all that, but sometimes I'd say trainer knows best, especially if they're very against running

Not saying Romeo isn't a 3 miler But going from an Irish Arkle to a BANC, is as bad a prep as you can have isn't it?

🚨🚨DOING A NAIAD 2026🚨🚨
🚨Thursday 26th February @ 7pm🚨
Firstly, thank you all for the interest you show in The Annual Naiad. Over the last couple of weeks or so the number of emails I’ve been sent, and the messages on social media asking if The Annual Naiad is going ahead again is incredible.
Prior to starting, between 6.45pm and 7pm, I’ll post the link for the Live YouTube Podcast to this Twitter Account. Also I’ll add it to the various Racing Groups I’m involved with, and also on the Fat Jockey Forum. Please be aware, that the servers get very busy as soon as the link is posted, and it can take a minute or two to get in.
There will be some on here that won't have a clue what this is all about, but if you search 'Doing A Naiad' on Google you'll find some of the Annual Podcasts from previous years, which will give you a good general idea of what to expect. In short we have massive plunge on one horse in the handicaps, and the price crashes quicker than a Willie/JP horse making it’s handicap debut straight out of France.
It’s a pre-Festival tradition for so many racing fans now, it's a live podcast where we all push the button on the selected horse at the same time on a value horse, that often crashes into favourite on the night. So, if you haven’t joined us previously you’ve been missing out. It’s a lot of fun, and for anyone who loves Horse Racing and the Festival in particular, make it one of your annual traditions too.
For those who attend the Festival on the day it runs, it’s also become a tradition to gather to watch the race on the big screen by the Parade Ring. I’ll post more details about that later.
Last year’s selection Busselton failed to fire. Un-forecasted rain fell overnight and in the morning, and the ground went against him. He didn’t lift a leg and our fate was sealed early on. But to prove the rationale was correct, and we were right to get on at the big price we did, he then sluiced up on his next run in the the Punchestown Festival Cross Country. Despite him disappointing, we did land the bonus double, which was Marine/Jazzy Matty at 166/1.
The last 5 seasons have given us 3 places and 2 losers which is ahead at level stakes, but the overall record including last year’s double is now 6 winners, 9 places, and 4 losers, which is significantly ahead. Given prices are usually recommended between 16/1 and 33/1, and the bet is advised each way I’d say that’s a pretty good record, and made even better by the 166/1 double. Perhaps we'll be doing something along those lines again this year 🤔
If anyone is wondering what all the fuss is about, and has no idea what the Naiad is and what it's all about, send me a quick DM and I'll explain.

@itvracing Would have been great if Leonna actually let Nicky and Michael talk. Majority of the interview was her talking. Its 2.5 weeks out to the champion hurdle -atleast try push a little.

@mcnults2 Created our best chance of the game, putting it on a plate for Ekitike.
Spun Guehi like a plate and was through on goal only to be hauled down.
Drop him for who?
