“Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” proves that #StarTrek canon is vital—just as vital as a key signature is to a jazz improv master. Being creative and flexible WITHIN canon necessitates canon. I love the canon. But I love when it’s creatively interpreted, too.

@ShelfNerds But if I expected it to be a direct prequel to TOS then yeah, I’d be disappointed. But also probably not enjoying it so much. SNW is a much freer world than what TOS portrayed.

This experience would’ve dramatically increased TOS’s Spock’s understanding of humanity. By the end of “Charades,” Spock values his humanity in a refreshing way, but it doesn’t align with his struggle in TOS. It doesn’t quite track for me. I need to rewatch it. Grade: B-

I’m not sure how I feel about “Charades.” There’s a lot of fun in it. The cliched “hungry” father who cowers before his wife just didn’t feel Vulcan to me. In fact, the mother felt like the most Vulcan character of them all. 1/2

@ShelfNerds Does it have to map directly back to TOS? I rather thought of SNW as a modern retelling of what the past could have been, like an alternate universe even. With threads connect with TOS that I can appreciate the foundation of the stories.
