@JonnyCapitalist I just quote Korean sources bc US "experts" think of them as a high tech "allied" nation with reliable media.

YAWN 🥱 Korea Times: Korean battery firms feared to lose more market share CATL, a Chinese battery manufacturer and technology company, is commercializing sodium-ion batteries — a move that poses an increasing threat to Korean battery firms, which still rely on sales of less price-competitive nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) batteries, experts and industry officials said Thursday. The Chinese firm recently unveiled its second-generation Naxtra sodium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), and shared its plan to start its mass production in December this year. Sodium-ion batteries offer several major advantages over nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, particularly in terms of cost and proven safety against fire risks. They also maintain strong energy density even in extremely low temperatures. Gemini AI: South Korean media has extensively covered the growing threat posed by Chinese battery giant CATL's advancements in sodium-ion battery technology. Articles from publications such as The Korea Times and The Korea Herald describe the pressure on major South Korean battery makers like LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On. Key issues highlighted in South Korean media include: Cost advantage: Sodium-ion batteries use abundant and cheap raw materials, offering a significant price advantage over the more expensive nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) batteries that South Korean companies have focused on. Rapid market entry: While Korean firms anticipated sodium-ion batteries would be used primarily for energy storage systems, CATL's plan to mass-produce them for mainstream passenger electric vehicles (EVs) by late 2025 has put Korean companies on alert. Technological lag: Korean battery companies are still in the early stages of sodium-ion battery development, giving their Chinese rivals a significant head start. Some Korean firms aim for commercialization by 2030, but CATL's earlier market entry gives it a chance to capture market share. Performance benefits: CATL's Naxtra sodium-ion battery offers notable benefits, including stronger performance in cold weather than existing lithium-ion batteries. This feature is a key selling point that could help Chinese firms gain market share in colder climates. Declining market share: Market data from firms like SNE Research, cited by South Korean media, shows a sharp decline in the global market share of Korean battery firms, while Chinese battery firms continue to expand their dominance.

@LittleCo64114 Stupid take from a fake account. L90 is a different vehicle class. It outsold and outdelivered L60 with it’s debut. Interest in ES8 is even higher than interest in L90. You and your fake 2025 account must have shorted. Have fun losing money. Recommend to block.

@DerekCBeland Nio uses battery swapping for their models and now faces compatibility issues between older stations, newer designs and their latest addition, a compact car brand. If one manufacturer alone already struggles, how should a whole industry do it better?

I like this.. but more because it starts us down the path to swappable batteries.. this would be the way to go with EVs... no charge.. just pull up.. system swaps you to a fresh one...off you go. and as they upgrade you can put better ones in your current EV.
🇩🇪EV, Engineering & Life🇨🇳@ChinaEV_Eng_Lif

Someone should tell them that for a modern EV battery to go critical it needs quite an heavy impact…which would destroy this „battery ejection system“.

@ChinaEV_Eng_Lif no... they would all figure it out. why be a nay sayer... wouldnt having easily removable barreries be a good thing to EVs.. when they go bad that car is considered totaled even if its still in good physical shape. and wouldnt getting upgraded ones for your older ride be good?

@CovidNoGood @SZ_Investing All will be from XPT. Judging by power output (340kW) , i think rear use the same one, but front is different. 180 vs 100 kW.

@alpe1949 @chris_stura You do realise all NIO cars are swappable and they can also be upgraded with solid state. In fact NIO already has semi solid state that is swappable and compatible for their cars?
