We honor the life of Dr. Janell Green Smith, DNP, CNM—a midwife, scholar, and champion for Black maternal health who tragically passed. Her loss underscores the urgent need to fix systems that continue to fail Black birthing people. Remembrance must be paired with action.

I am excited to announce that Lisa Asare will continue serving in my cabinet as the President and CEO of the NJ Maternal & Infant Health Innovation Authority. Lisa is known across NJ for her ability to bring communities to the table to improve access to care.   Lisa’s leadership will be critical as we continue to combat New Jersey’s Black Maternal Health crisis. Together, we’ll work to grow the midwife and doula workforce and invest in programs that support postpartum moms and their infants.  Welcome to the team, Lisa!
