An estimated 1 in 9 veterans experience food insecurity, over 33,000 face homelessness on any given night, and 11–20% of post-9/11 veterans experience PTSD annually, compounding barriers to stability and underscoring the need for coordinated access to housing, mental health care, and essential services (USDA; HUD; VA).
By sharing his story, this veteran highlights the urgent need for coordinated services that address trauma, housing instability, and access to basic resources.
Awareness and access to structured support systems are critical to achieving long-term stability for those who have served.

In recognition of his leadership and sustained commitment to veterans, the NJRC Veterans Pantry was dedicated in honor of Speaker Craig Coughlin.
His support has played a critical role in expanding access to food resources and strengthening services for veterans across the state.
Operating at full capacity with coordinated volunteers, the Veterans Pantry addresses a persistent need. Approximately 1 in 9 veterans experience food insecurity (USDA; Feeding America), with rates exceeding 25% among justice-involved populations. Mental health conditions impact an estimated 50–65% of this population, underscoring the need for integrated care.
This work reflects a clear priority. Food access is foundational to stability, improved health outcomes, and long-term reintegration for veterans.

At NJRC’s Middlesex County reentry services site, community leaders and service partners convened to address veteran food insecurity as a critical barrier to stability.
Speaker Craig Coughlin’s presence reflected a shared, nonpartisan understanding that hunger directly impacts health outcomes, housing stability, and successful reintegration for veterans.
Serving over 1,700 veterans, NJRC’s Veterans Pantry is a clinical entry point into coordinated services, including DD214 retrieval, discharge upgrades, medical and behavioral health care, housing stabilization, and workforce pathways.
Addressing hunger among veterans is foundational to restoring stability, improving health, and supporting long-term reintegration outcomes.

NJRC serves over 31,651 individuals statewide, has secured 14,246 job placements, and maintains a 14.01% recidivism rate.
@SandraBCunning's legacy @NJSenDems advanced expungement, "Ban the Box" protections, and continuity of care, establishing a statewide reentry framework. This year’s honorees reflect Senator Cunningham's commitment to strengthening coordinated reentry and long-term stability.

Grateful to see a full class of engaged veterans focused, asking questions, and preparing for the transition into entrepreneurship.
In partnership with the @SBAgov and the Department of Defense, the @Boots2Business program provides a structured pathway from military service to business ownership. Through the SBA Learning Platform, veterans gain foundational training in business planning, market research, access to capital, and long-term operational strategy.
Thank you to Sharon McGreevey and the SBA for continuing to expand access to evidence-based entrepreneurship education and supporting veterans in building sustainable economic stability.

Truly humbling to have the food pantry at the @NJ_Reentry Carteret Veterans Center named in my honor. Access to food is fundamental, and I’m grateful to play a part in a fight that believes in the power of caring for one another.

A CDL is more than a license. It’s a Second Chance.
New Jersey’s freight economy depends on CDL drivers, yet the trucking industry will need 1.1 million new drivers nationwide over the next decade.
Thanks to a $300,000 @_FALFoundation Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Grant, NJRC is expanding CDL training for registered participants and veterans, creating direct pathways to steady, family-sustaining jobs in one of the state’s essential industries.
Open to NJRC-registered court-involved and veteran participants. To apply, please contact Mike Peluso, mpeluso@njreentry.org, 848.202.4952

When Governor Christie founded NJRC in 2014, the opioid crisis was already ravaging our communities. As a former U.S. Attorney, he understood the direct link between addiction and incarceration.
Nationally, 65% of US court-involved persons meet the criteria for substance abuse disorder; an additonal 20% were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of their offense.
From the outset, NJRC has recognized that reentry requires clinically recommended behavioral treatment, trauma-informed care, and critical wraparound support as people return home. This panel reflects a cornerstone of our mission: when trauma is addressed, healing becomes possible.
Join us on April 2 for our Annual Reentry Conference.

At NJRC, Second Chances are not aspirational. They are measurable.
31,651 participants served. A verified 14.01% recidivism rate confirmed by the New Jersey State Police, benchmarked against a ~27% national average.
Our centralized Salesforce system tracks 16+ integrated service categories, including housing and ID restoration, addiction treatment, employment, and veterans services, with a 0% reporting error rate since December 2023.
Our programming follows structured sequencing and care navigation consistent with the U.S. DOJ Bureau of Justice Assistance reentry model: assessment, stabilization, workforce development, and sustained community integration. Services are coordinated, outcomes are measured, and direction is intentional.
Data-driven. Service-centered. Results-verified.

Grateful for this moment with NJRC’s Alumni Men’s Support Group and Lt. Governor Dale G. Caldwell. Lasting change is built in rooms like these.
Behind every man in this room is a story of resilience and a commitment to something better. NJRC’s Alumni Men’s Support Group brings formerly incarcerated men together to provide peer psychological support, build accountability, and develop the skills needed for long-term stability.
At the center of this men’s group is honest dialogue, creating space for NJRC and Lt. Governor Dale G. Caldwell’s team to hear the barriers men face when returning home, including housing challenges, the differences between Title 2A and 2C, and the daily struggle of securing identification.
