Lorton Prison in Virginia officially closed in 2001 after being opened in 1910 as a prison farm for nonviolent offenders. It was closed for many reasons but the Museum was able to add a section of cells to its Corrections exhibit. Book your visit ➡️ nleomf.org/museum/admissi…

#Onthisday, in 1870, Wyatt Outlaw was lynched by the notorious White Brotherhood gang in Graham, North Carolina. Outlaw was a politician, commissioner and constable and the first known African American officer killed in the line of duty.

On May 2, 2011, Navy SEALs raided a compound in Pakistan, where they found and killed Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden’s pakol (traditional Afghani headwear) was illegally taken from the scene. NCIS recovered it as part of their investigation and loaned it to the Museum in 2018.
