Last week, HUD published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, “Equal Access to Housing in HUD Programs Revisions.” The NPRM seeks to remove regulatory provisions that protect access to HUD shelter and housing programs regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The comment period for the NPRM is open until June 29 at 11:59 pm ET. NLIHC supports @transequalitynow Housing with Dignity Campaign and urges advocates to use the toolkit. Last week, the fiscal year (FY) 2026 DHS spending bill was passed and signed on April 30, ending the 76-day shutdown. The final bill funds FEMA disaster recovery but excludes ICE and CBP after Democrats refused support unless their funding was removed, while Republicans plan to pursue separate funding through reconciliation.
