I had the honor of Donating my Blood Stem Cells through PBSC to a patient in need that I matched with through NMDP!
In 2022, I signed up on campus at Utica University to be a part of the NMDP Registry— never knowing if I’d be able to help someone out. Four years later, I got the call!
Nearly 70% of patients don’t have a fully matched donor in their family. Every 3 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer—that’s about 480 people every day who may need a blood stem cell donor. Through the NMDP Registry, patients are connected with donors around the world, as more than 3,400 people are diagnosed daily.
Grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. Wishing the absolute best for my match.

📚 Nicole is back in nursing school!
An AML diagnosis once forced her to pause her path—but after multiple stem cell transplants, including one from an unrelated donor, she’s continuing the career she loves.

Cornell is hosting a stem-cell cheek swabbing campaign until March 20 across the Ithaca campus. The goal: Inspire 10,000 students, faculty and staff ages 18-35 to spend 30 seconds swabbing themselves to join the national stem cell registry.
Cornellians who match with a patient in need could donate stem cells or blood-marrow through @nmdp_org, a nonprofit that facilitates transplants. Donors must be 18-35, making universities ideal places to test for would-be matches.
Big Red, Big Impact – the largest such event NMDP has ever hosted – entails swabbing stations across the campus, with an extensive network of volunteers assisting with signups and handing out kits for Cornellians to swab the insides of their own cheeks. People are able to swab themselves at sites ranging from North Campus to Collegetown and Willard Straight Hall.
“Cornell is proud to partner with NMDP to drive science, strengthen the national registry and expand opportunities for Max and the thousands of other patients who are awaiting life-saving transplants,” said President Michael I. Kotlikoff. “I know that our community will enthusiastically come together to help others, advance knowledge and do the greatest good.”
More information, and volunteer signups, can be found at go.nmdp.org/m/NMDPCornell.
@Cornell Let's save lives, Cornell! Every cheek swab gives hope to patients facing blood cancers and other blood diseases who need life-saving blood stem cell transplants. 💙

@DoctorLemma It never gets old watching Kenton meet Laila! 💙 For anyone interested in joining the registry to become a potential life-saving blood stem cell donor like Kenton, you can do so here: go.nmdp.org/NMDPRegistry
7 years ago, a high school student in Kansas had his cheek swabbed at a bone marrow donor drive after his teacher told the class she had once saved a stranger’s life by donating. He figured they would never call. Months later they did. He was a perfect match for a 10-year-old girl with a disease so rare only 15 other children in the world had it. He went through surgery not knowing her name.
Ten months later he found out it was Laila Anderson, the girl who had become famous for inspiring her favourite hockey team during their championship run while fighting for her own life. Before they met, she wrote him a letter and signed it, “Your best friend, whether you like it or not.”
When they finally met, he ran across the room and held her. She told him, “I don’t care if we go to dinner or go to Disney World, I just want to spend time with you.”
@JisselaC_media Thank you so much for all your efforts to help increase awareness, grow the registry, and support our life-saving movement, Jissela! 💙-Caroline
