5/ We also explored whether sleep preferentially consolidated memory for drawn or written words in controls. We found that sleep benefited memory for only written words, suggesting that sleep preferentially consolidates memories that are more dependent on the hippocampal system.

4/ We suggest that amnesic patients may benefit from drawing due to the recruitment of brain regions outside of the hippocampal system for encoding and consolidation.

Overall, sleep is important in maintaining our ability to retrieve specific and positive autobiographical memories. In addition, there is preliminary evidence that slow-wave sleep and sleep quality are associated with greater detail and accuracy for recent memories. (2/2)

Going to #CNS2024? Into naturalistic memory? Stop by my poster (B155) on Sunday at 8am! In this study w/ @rosanna_olsen @Brad_Buchsbaum & @morganbarense, I tested memory in younger+older adults on an ONLINE staged event in which participants & I played games & watched videos 😃
