Last photo of Brazilian tourist, 26-year-old Juliana Marins, who was left to die by Indonesian guide and authorities after she fell during a hike on Rinjani Volcano. She fell hundreds of metres down a steep ravine while hiking near the crater of Mount Rinjani in Indonesia in June 2025. She had stopped to rest due to exhaustion and was left behind before slipping off the trail. Remarkably, she survived the initial fall. Drone footage and rescuers confirmed she was alive, moving, and calling for help, but she was stranded deep on a cliff face in extremely dangerous terrain. Rescue efforts were repeatedly delayed by thick fog, landslides, and the steep, unstable landscape. Over the next four days, she remained trapped without confirmed access to food, water, or shelter. She was eventually found d*ad on June 24. An autopsy later revealed she passed from severe injuries and internal bleeding shortly after the fall, not from exposure. The case sparked widespread outrage, with her family accusing authorities of delays and mismanagement.

@DavidColtart @leesah_zimbo @CityofBulawayo While we're on the subject of Trade Fair, kindly consider a footbridge there, the zebra crossing isn't working as expected, that's a high traffic zone, especially during events.

This morning I inspected the fountain in front of @CityofBulawayo City Hall which has been defunct for over a decade. We are in the process of refurbishing it and our plan is to have it ready in time for this year’s Trade Fair. I was gratified to find the contractors working hard on the project on a holiday - Easter Monday - to ensure it is finished on time. The fountain is in fact being upgraded as well and will be more easily cleaned than it was in the past. Although of course this won’t provide any jobs or lessen the cost of living for residents, it is an iconic structure and its refurbishment is another sign that we are slowly restoring Bulawayo to its former grandeur. My congratulations and thanks are extended to the Town Clerk, management and the Bulawayo based contractors who have made this happen. Siyabonga one and all.
