Survival demands that Bharatiyas dump their dependence on Police and other govt. agencies for their security, and start learning martial arts and handling weapons for self-defence, set up community defence groups at the village level, and network these with District level, State level and national level. Such a well organised and well funded Bharatiya sena is the crying need of the hour. Lawyers also need to be part of the sena to take up legal wars before the courts as the governments of whatever political hue are likely to side with the forces that are in pursuit of conquest-of-India expressed in the notorious expression, which is three-word, two-hyphenated Arabic-Persian-Urdu lexical representation of the looming threat to India.

It was after many years that I touched 'The Hindu' today. It was supplied on Tejas Express, by which I'm travelling now to Chennai. Having been an avid reader of the newspaper in the 1980s and 90s, I stopped subscribing to it about two decades ago after it started publishing views tainted by unconscientious prejudice, and worse still, reporting news distorted to serve its unprincipled agenda.

The picturesque ISKCON Vaikuntha Hill situated on a hillock in Vasanthapura off Kanakapura road, Bangalore features a beautiful temple for Sri Rajadhiraja Govinda (appearing exactly like Tirupati Venkatachalapathi) and Radha Krishna. This is different from the main ISKCON temple at Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore. I was blessed to have darshan of the splendid murtis in dazzling decorations on the special occasion of the first day of the Rath Yatra the day before yesterday (16th July). I visited the temple along with a few relatives who had happened to assemble at a function in my cousin's house located close to the temple. The temple with exquisite structures, enchantingly beautiful vigrahams, and excellently maintened environs is highly worth visiting.

Readers would have a better understanding of the Supreme Court's order on reading the more comprehensive article of "The Hindu" in the attached image. The summary of the article is below. The SC has described the issue of restraining minors’ access to online pornography as one of “paramount public importance.” On July 13, 2026, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant converted a Public Interest Litigation into a representation to the Union Government, asking it to consider framing a national policy and action plan on the matter. The petition, filed by advocate B.L. Jain, highlighted that while the Information Technology Act, 2000 penalizes the production and distribution of pornographic material, it does not penalize its consumption. The court noted the petitioners’ concern that such obnoxious content is easily accessible at the click of a button, leading to addiction and psychological distress among users, especially minors. It was also argued that easy access contributes to rising instances of sexual crimes against women. While not going into the merits of the case, the court observed that the plea pertains to the policy domain and requires expert guidance in technology. The matter has now been forwarded to the government for due consideration.

Philosophical discussions are apt to be engaged in by scholars having expert knowledge of the scriptures. It befits such vidwans to explore the true meaning of the scriptural texts by engaging in non-acrimonious debates, reasoning out the merits and demerits of different interpretations and conclusions based on their understanding. The vast majority of common people follow different philosophical ideologies and observe different traditional practices merely abiding by what their ancestors did, and not on the basis of their own convictions formed on the basis of any self-analysis of the scriptures. If they pause to think calmly, the lay followers of different religious philosophies and customs would realise that it is easily practicable for them to leave the philosophical debates to the experts, and stay away from making critical comments, let alone derogatory ones, on ideologies they differ from and on their proponents and followers.

I think we all need to take a chill pill. Diversity has always been the identity of Hinduism. The very grain of Hinduism is " I'm OK with the way you live your faith." Shankara was as much a Hindu as Charvaka, and their philosophies couldn't have been more different from each other. Leave alone Madhwacharya and Ramanujacharya. Yes, we can all have a debate as to whose thinking was higher. While Shankara's Tattva is the loftiest of them all, it is not easy to follow for a mundane worldly person. Maybe Madhwa's philosophy appealed more to the practicality of daily life. Each has its plus and every school of thought has its Achilles heel. And it's not like these disputes started yesterday. We've heard of bhajans by one group having some utterly unparliamentary words for people of their rival group, and this was 500 years ago! We believe in and chant what our respective Gurus taught us and move on.

Yes, they might avoid Guru ninda at least in self interest, though it would ideally behove people to observe civilised conduct by avoiding being inconsiderate and discourteous to the followers of different religious ideologies and practices in general, and being irreverential to the āchāryās of other sampradāyams in particular.

When did insulting Jagadgurus become a part of Harikatha? A video recently circulated in which objectionable remarks were made against Sri Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya during a Harikatha. The Udupi Sri Krishna, Shiroor Matha has since officially clarified that the individuals concerned were asked to apologize, and they have done so publicly through a video. That is the right step. Sanātana Dharma has always embraced multiple sampradāyas and numerous paths like Advaita, Dvaita, Vishishtadvaita, Bhakti, Yoga, Tantra, Dnyana, etc., for spiritual elevation. Diversity of thought is one of our greatest strengths. But that diversity is never a license to demean one Jagadguru in an attempt to glorify another. If there are philosophical differences, our tradition provides the highest standard for resolving them, Śāstrārtha, reasoned debate based on scripture and logic. That is how our Āchāryas engaged with one another. Mockery, insults, and speaking behind the back of a revered Āchārya are not signs of scholarship or devotion. They are signs of intellectual weakness and cowardice. Respect your own Guru. Revere your own tradition. But never build your faith by insulting another revered Āchārya. That is not Dharma. It only weakens Hindu unity. Let this incident remind us that devotion without humility is incomplete, and disagreement without respect has no place in Sanātana Dharma.

This comes effortlessly to smārthās and all other Hindu groups except two sects who are not only taught to worship Gods with the specified names and forms, and respect the āchāryās of their sampradāyams but also indoctrinated to refrain from worshipping Gods with other names and forms, and respecting the āchāryās of other sampradāyams. They are similar to the followers of the Abrahamic religions except for certain practices like conversion. There is no reason why factors like disagreement on religious philosophy and differences in religious practices and traditions should come in the way of civilised people's observing basic human courtesy like showing respect or at least desisting from showing disrespect to the followers of different philosophies and practitioners of different traditions. But then it is an observed fact that indoctrination has the potential to evict civility from the human mind.
