Happy birthday to former Norman North, Iowa State and current Baltimore Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar, born on this day in 1999 in Norman. At Norman North, Kolar played both football and basketball. He earned First-Team All-State accolades as a senior after catching 66 passes for 1,240 yards and 12 touchdowns, helping the Timberwolves go 12-1 and advance to the 6A-I state championship game. In the title game, won by Union 57-43, Kolar had six catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. Kolar signed with Iowa State and after a redshirt season, went on to catch 168 passes for 2,181 yards and 23 touchdowns over four years, earning a second-team All-Big 12 honor in 2018 and three-time first-team All-Big 12 from 2019 to 2021. He was also the recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy as a senior. Often known as the "Academic Heisman", the honor is given to the top college football player with the best combination of academics, leadership and on-field performance. Kolar was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has appeared in 47 games, including 13 starts, making 30 catches for 409 yards and four touchdowns.
